Wisconsin, in the state of fifty states in the United States, is the tenth. Lake in the northwest, Lake Superior, Lake of the East. The area is 14.53 million square kilometers. The population is 5,453,896 (2000) and the urban population is about 65 per cent. The capital, Madison. Wisconsin, the name comes from the Indian language, the meaning of which is "meadows" Grassy Place. French explorers made Nikolay the first European to arrive here in 1643. In 1763 it belonged to England. In 1783, it belonged to the United States. In 1836, it founded the border region. In 1848, it joined the Union and became the 30th state of the United States.
