第一，养成并保持学习的能力。上大学是为了什么？我认为两件事情最为重要：一是掌握学习的能力，二是养成合作的习惯。人的一生只有不断掌握并增强自身的学习能力才能不落后于时代。这也是真正的大学教育的宗旨。学习的能力不仅仅来自阅读，更多的还有走出去看世界、观察世界、思考世界、品味世界，只有这样才能够拥有开阔的视野，体会、了解人类的诸多不同，这会使人更加宽容。宽容是人类最高的智慧之一，它会使人类增进幸福。
Firstly, to develop and keep the learning ability. What's the purpose of going to college? In my opinion there are two important things: 1. To master the learning ability. 2. To develop the cooperation habit. In our entire life, we should keep on learning and improving our learning abilities in order not to be lagged behind the times. And this is the purpose of college education. Learning ability comes from two aspects, one is by reading and the other bigger part is by going outside to see, watch and think about the world because only in this way can one man have open horizon to understand the many differences of human kind and consequently become more tolerant. Tolerance is one of the highest wisdoms of people and it can bring more happiness.
第二，独立思考的能力。好奇心和想象力塑造着一个人的偏好和喜好，没有自身喜好的人生或者说有自己的喜好却被父母和其他人强行改变的人生是非常恐怖的。
Secondly, to possess the independent thinking ability. Curiosity and imagination help build one's preference and interests, and It's quite terrible if one man has no preference or his preference is forced to change by parents or others .
第三，自主选择的能力。没有问题意识，提不出问题，也自然缺乏自主选择能力，这是个恶性循环。具有学习能力的人，能够独立思考的人，也一定是拥有自主选择能力的人，自然是创新能力很强的人。
Thirdly, to possess the ability to make an independent choice. If you can't find the issue or raise question, you definitely lack the ability to make an independent choice. And this is the so-called vicious circle. On the contrary, one man who has the learning as well as the independent thinking ability must be the one who can make his own choice and the one who has strong innovation ability.
第四，审美能力。审美可以让人知晓世界上的美好与丑恶，它告诉每一个人，人类的行为应当是有底线的，知道有些事情是绝对不可以去碰的、不可以去做的，而不是为达目的不择手段。这样，我们社会的道德水准才会有所提升。
Fourthly, to possess the aesthetics ability. Aesthetics makes us distinguish what's good or bad, and in this way we understand there should be bottom line for what we are doing. Some things must be left untouched and undone. And It's not right for us to be unscrupulous to achieve whatever we want. Consequently, the social moral standard can be promoted.
第五，战胜困难的能力。优雅地面对压力真的是很难的一件事情，一个人在压力面前如果能做到优雅的话，这本身就说明你真的能够把困境作为常态。这一点对大家未来的人生、工作非常重要，会增进你的幸福感。
Fifthly, to possess the ability to conquer difficulties. It's so difficult to face pressures in a graceful way. If one man can do that, it proves that he can really treat difficult situations as a normal state. Treating pressure in a graceful way plays an important part in our future life and work and it can definitely increase our happiness.
最后一点，要做一个具有使命感的人。一个人做好自己每一个人生阶段中应该做好的事情，把自己喜欢做的事情尽可能地做到极致甚至像清教徒那样对待自己喜欢的职业并愿意为此努力一生，你就是一个具有使命感的人。
Last but not the least, to be a man with high social sense. One man should do what's supposed to be done well in each different stage of his life, and do extremely well for what he likes just like what the Puritans do to devote their life to their belief. By doing this you can be a man with high sense of responsibility.
