I'm afraid that I would forget some important information so I bring my mobile with me. Hope you don't mind.
This is the 4th time I’ve attending the ToastMaster club meeting. And I found a common issue encountered by almost all of the attenders, which is, beside the meeting, we do nothing to cultivate those abilities we hope to improve. For example: I myself spend only 10 minutes preparing before the TMC meeting once in two weeks. And this amount of preparation has already trumps most of the attenders, because of most of us don't prepare anything for it. Then on the meeting, we saw some senior members giving excellent speeches, and we wish to be like them one day, then it's our turns, we gave awkward and embarrassing speech and receive encouragement from others. And later, we do nothing in the coming two weeks, until the next meeting. During the two weeks, many new comers gave up, because the gap between them and the experienced senior members is so huge, and there isn’t a clear way for them to fill the gap, they didn’t get any support from the club between the two meetings. So, why would they want to experiencing embarrassment and feeling of incompetence every two weeks, with no hope to make the situation better. If I were them, I would gave up, too.
I’m trying to figure out a way to help all of us to developing our desired abilities in our daily life, and I have a primitive plan now. I’ve noticed that most of us came here for two reasons: trying to improve our English, or trying to gain some interpersonal skills such as communication skills. We have willings to improve them, but we don’t know how and finally we do nothing to achieve them.
So, the core idea of my plan is simple, that’s to ensure every attenders will spend at least a few minutes everyday on those abilities they want to cultivate. The purpose is clear, via such daily learning and practicing, eventually you will build a learning habit which will finally helps you to achieve what you want.
I’m not selling you some magic pills that ensures you to get exactly what you want. I’m offering a system through which you can get support, company, advice and inspiration from other members. You may still encounter lots of obstacle and frustration inside the system. You may still can’t find a satisfying solution for your specific problem. But trust me, the daily learning habit you got from this system will be a treasure for you in your life. We don’t gave you the delicious dishes, in we teach you how to cook for yourself.
So let me explain how this system works. First, we will build a Wechat group(wechat in Chinese is wexin) for daily learning discussions, but this group is not the major method. The saviour is a mini program inside wechat called punch card(小打卡），we will create a punch card activity lasts for 2 weeks between two meetings. There are 2 types of punch card activity, one with a prepaid contract money and the other one is free. It’s your choice to choose which kind of activity to attend, but I highly recommend the contract money type, because it adds another force to help you to do daily learning, and I myself has been benefited from it, I’ve cultivated a habit of writing by attending a series of contract type writing punch card activity.
The contract money will be refunded to you by the mini program when the activity ends, if you did all the action required by the punch card activity. But if you didn’t satisfy the requirement, your contract money be split by other activity attenders.
The requirement is very easy to satisfy, you'll need to study at least 5 minutes a day, and then you are required to do the punch card action and write down an at least 30 characters note inside the mini program. You must do such actions in at least 10 days during two weeks.
Those who finished the daily learning punch card activity will receive awards from Learn & Share TMC. And on the biweekly TMC meeting you can examine and apply what you learn during the two weeks.
At current period, we only have one wechat group for both English study and social skills study. Later when have more participants, we may separate it into two groups.
And later, I will pass the wechat group QRcode to those who wants to join the system. We’ll confirm the contract money amount based on the opinions of all attendants and I'll tell you how to join the punch card activity. The next punch card activity will start tomorrow.
