“我跟你说吧，这事我不想掺和。”
“总得为你的女儿们想想吧！随便她们中的哪一个，能攀上这么个好人家该有多风光啊！威廉爵士夫妇都打算要去，他们还不是也有这个想法，你也知道的，平时他们可不会去拜访新邻居。说真的，你必须得去，你要是不先去拜访他的话，我和孩子们没法去啊！”
“你真的想多了。我敢肯定宾格利先生会很高兴见到你们的，我可以写两句话给你带去，向他保证他可以娶我的任何一个女儿，只要他中意就行。不过，我一定会为我的小丽兹美言几句的。”

“我的那些女儿没什么值得我夸奖的，”他答道；“跟别人家的姑娘一样，又傻又无知。可丽兹不一样，丽兹比她的姐妹们都要伶俐。”
“班纳特先生，你怎么能这么说自己家的女儿？让我生气你很开心是吧？一点都不体谅我可怜的神经。”

“哎，你不知道我受的是什么罪。”

“你都不愿意去拜访他们，那就算有20个这种邻居搬过来，关我们什么事。”

班纳特先生是一个古怪的混合体，上一秒还开着玩笑，下一秒怼你没商量，有时金口难开，有时又任性妄为，他的妻子用二十三年的经验还是摸不透他的性情。班纳特夫人就没那么难以琢磨了。她是个头脑简单、见识短浅、脾气善变的女人。每当她心情不好的时候，她就拿她的神经说事。她人生的头等大事就是把她的女儿们都嫁出去，生平最大的安慰就是串门和打探各种消息。

Mr. Bennet was so odd a mixture of quick parts, [sarcastic],humour, [reserve], and [caprice], that the experience of three and twenty years had been insufficient to make his wife understand his character. Her mind was less difficult to develope. She was a woman of mean understanding, little information, and uncertain temper. When she was discontented, she fancied herself nervous. The business of her life was to get her daughters married; its [solace] was visiting and news.
