最早听到这首歌是在电影《英俊少年》里。其实，它原是一首古老的爱尔兰民谣，名叫《年轻人的梦》。到十九世纪时，托马斯•穆尔（1779-1852，爱尔兰文学史上杰出的爱国主义诗人）对它产生兴趣并重新填词，改名《夏日最后的玫瑰》。
‘Tis the last rose of summer
这是夏日最后的玫瑰
Left blooming alone;
独自绽放着；
All her lovely companions
所有昔日动人的同伴
