During the World WarⅡ, Bruno’s family moved to a place middle of nowhere which is called Out-With. His father was a Commandant of the German Army who served for Hitler and Bruno didn’t know anything about his father’s job except he always wore a fancy suit. One day he met a little skinny boy over a fence who was wearing a pair of striped pyjamas during his exploration. He had three best friends for life back in Berlin, but he didn’t know anyone except his shadow in this deserted place. Therefore, the boy in the striped pyjamas became his new best friend for life and they always talked to each other but no playing together at a confirmed time during the year. Bruno often brought food to him and he was longing for exploring the world over the fence. Finally he had a chance to explore the world behind the fence before he went back to his old house after he got used to this place, however, he never had a chance to go back again…
It is a heart breaking story that tells a story about the friendship between a little German boy and a Jew boy during the World WarⅡ, and also tells the cataract of German launched upon Jew. For me, this book is definitely became the part of the very few memories of mine now that refused to fade. I mean it is going to influence my whole life. At the very moment that I finish reading this book, I had a weird feeling that words can’t explain. I can’t even think at that moment. I don’t know what that is about. Anyway, that’s go back to our point, this book has an interesting start, that’s why I finish reading it in a week. But for the writing style, I’m not really into it at the beginning. However, it surprised me in the end. I would say the climax of this story is the ending part. Although the words are very simple and plain, it is powerful enough to make me cry my eyes out.
Today most of us are complaining about this and that all the time, no matter how colorful life is. But the point is that maybe sometimes we can put our leg into other’s shoes and rethink about our life a little bit. We have no idea that what kind of lives those Jew people behind the fence were living. At least Bruno can’t tell us anyhow. No food, no drink, most terribly, no freedom, they are not allowed to talk or laugh or walk. I’m still in a blue mood now. I mean I noticed the color or the meaning of my life, and I always trying to live my life in my own way, unfortunately, I can’t do anything for those people who are struggling for life or still suffering. Life is way too much complicated, really. If you think over something deeply, the answer is there’s no answer, at all. Tricky , huh?
I didn’t expect a tragic ending. But it really reminds me of taking a break and thinking about my life, my relationship with my family members and most importantly, letting me cherish what I have now. I guess this is the magical thing all about reading books. I’m reading pretty much recently and as one of my foreign friends mentioned, I am becoming more and more thoughtful now. I don’t think it’s a bad thing though. Alright, I don’t even know what I’m talking now. But one last thing I wanted to say is that it is a book full of surprises that whoever read this , is his honor. He will appreciate this.
