Chapter Four: Captain Ramon
At 8 p.m. it is dinner time at Don Carlos'home. The family is sitting at the table. Someone knocks at the door. A servant opens it and Zorro appears!
Don Carlos, his wife and daughter stand up.They are scared. "Good evening," says Zorro. "Don't be scared!You are an honest man, Don Carlos. I only want some food and drink."
Zorro goes to Lolita and whispers, "I cannot forget this afternoon in the patio."
"You must not come here. It is dangerous!" whispers Lolita.
Suddenly a young Spanish soldier enters the house. He is Captain Ramon. He wants to arrest[1]Zorro. Zorro takes out his sword and they fight. The two men are good fighters.
"I want to arrest you ,Zorro," saysCaptain Ramon."You are a public enemy[2]."
"You cannot arrest me!" saysZorro.
Zorro injures[3]the Captain's shoulder with his sword. The Captain falls to the floor.
"Please help the Captain!" Zorrosays to Don Carlos. Then he smiles at Lolita and rides away on his horse.
Don Carlos' wife and daughter look afterCaptain Ramon's injured shoulder[4].The Captain likes beautiful Lolita.
"Don Carlos," says the Captain,"I like Lolita very much. I come from a good family and I am theGovernor's friend. I am 23 years old and I am the Captain of the Presidio. MayI court[5]Lolita?"
"First, I explain something,"says Don Carlos. "Don Diego Vega wants to court Lolita too. Lolita mustchoose her husband herself, but you have my permission to court her!"
The next morning there is a lot of noise at the Presidio. Don Diego and other men are watching. There are many soldiers on their horses. They are listening to Sergeant Gonzales.
"Today is an important day. We must find Zorro! We must look in every hacienda and in every home. Remember the Governor's big reward. Let's go!"
That morning Don Diego sends a letter to Don Carlos:
My dear friend,
Sergeant Gonzales and his soldiers want to arrest Zorro. It is dangerous for you and your family to stay at your hacienda. Please come to my home in Reina de Los Angeles.It is safe in my home. I must go away fora Few days.
Your friend,
Diego Vega
Don Carlos receives the letter and says ,"Whata generous[6]invitation! Don Diego wants to protect Lolita .We must accept the invitation. Letus go immediately[7]!"
Five: Lolita is in Love
Don Diego's home in Reina de Los Angeles isbig and beautiful. There are many rooms and many servants. There is a biggarden with trees and flowers. Don Carlos and his family like it.
"Lolita! Marry Don Diego and thisbeautiful home is yours!" says Dona Catalina
"I don't love Don Diego! I don't wantto marry him!" says Lolita.
"Lolita, tonight your mother and Imust visit our old friends,"says Don Carlos. "Can you stay at homealone?"
"Yes, of course. There are many booksin Don Diego's library.
I can stay here and read."
Lolita looks at the books. "Howstrange!" she thinks. "Don Diego has books about love, passion[8],adventure[9],horses and heroes! But he isn't strong and is so lifeless[10]!"
Suddenly there is a knock at the door. Aservant opens it and Captain Ramon enters. He goes to the library and seesLolita.
"I'm glad you are alone! You are avery beautiful girl. I have your father's permission to court you! I know thatDon Diego wants to marry you, but I am superior[11]in every way. Don Diego has no courage. He is a weak man. I am the Captain ofthe Presidio."
"I am alone," says Lolita."You cannot stay here. It is not right. Please go away!"
Captain Ramon takes her hand and says,"Don't run away Lolita. You are mine! Kiss me!"
Lolita pushes him away and says, "Idon't want to kiss you, go away!"
"No, you are mine. You must marry me.Now kiss me!"
Lolita slaps the Captain's face.
At that moment Zorro appears in the libraryand says, "Captain Ramon, you are a villain[12].Don't touch Lolita! Leave this house immediately "
"I cannot forget this terrible insult[13],"says the Captain. His face is red with anger. Zorro opens the door and kickshim out.
"Thank you for your help, Zorro. Youare courageous and kind. I love you!" Lolita says.
"Dear Lolita, I love you too!"says Zorro. They embrace[14]and kiss.

Chapter Five: The Caterpillar
The Caterpillar is looking at Alice. He is very quiet. After a while he asks, 'Who are you'?'
Alice is quite confused but she tries to answer, 'I... I don't know ... I'm always changing from big to small to big again'
'How?' the Caterpillar asks, 'Explain yourself.'
'I can't explain myself because I'm not myself, you see.'
'I don't see,' says the Caterpillar.
'I think it's very difficult to explain; well, one day you'll turn into a butterfly. You'll find this quite strange, won't you?'
'Not at all,' says the Caterpillar.
'Well, I feel very strange,' says Alice.
'You ... who are you?' asks the Caterpillar.
'I would like to know who you are first,' says Alice.
'Why?' asks the Caterpillar.
That is a difficult question for Alice. She can't answer so she walks away.
'Come here, I want to talk to you!' the Caterpillar says.
Alice goes back to the mushroom.
'You must never be angry,' says the Caterpillar.
'Is that all?' Alice asks angrily.
'No.'
The Caterpillar smokes his pipe for a while then he gets down off the mushroom and tells Alice: 'One side will make you grow bigger, and the other side will make you grow smaller.'
Alice thinks, 'One side of what? The other side of what?'
The Caterpillar guesses her thoughts and says, 'Of the mushroom.'
The mushroom is round like all mushrooms so Alice thinks: 'How can it have two sides?'
Then she puts her arms round the top and takes a bit of mushroom with each hand.
'Which bit will make me bigger?' she asks herself.
She eats a little piece and there she is ... smaller and smaller so she takes another piece of the mushroom and her neck becomes very long.
She eats some more mushroom and she is back to her normal height.
'Now I want to find that beautiful garden,' she says.
Alice walks in the wood. She sees a small house.
'I'm too big. I can't get in the house. I'll eat some mushroom and I'll eat become smaller,' thinks Alice.
Chapter Seven: A Mad Tea-Party
Alice walked towards the house. There was a tree in front of the house.
Under the tree there was a big table with places for a lot of people. There were only three people sitting at the table: the Hatter, the March Hare, and a Dormouse. The Dormouse was asleep and the other two were sitting next to him.
When the Hatter and the March Hare saw Alice, they shouted: 'No! No!
There isn't a place for you!'
'There are a lot of places,' said Alice and she sat in a big chair.
The Hatter looked at Alice and took a watch out of his pocket.
'What day is it?' he asked.
Alice thought a bit and answered, 'Wednesday, I think.'
'It's Friday by my watch,' the Hatter told the March Hare. 'The butter wasn't good for the watch ... I told you!'
'It was the best butter,' replied the March Hare.
'Yes, but you put it in with the bread knife. Some bread got in, perhaps.'
The March Hare took the watch and put it in his tea. Then he took it out and looked at it. He said, 'It was the best butter.'
Alice looked at the watch. 'It tells the day but it doesn't tell you the time ofday,' she said.
'Of course not. Does your watch tell you what year it is?' asked the March are.
'No,' Alice answered, 'but that's because it's the same year for a very long time.'
'Take some more tea,' said the March Hare.
'Thank you, but I didn't drink any tea so I can't take more,' replied Alice.
'Yes, you can,' he Hatter said. 'Anyone can take more than nothing.'
Alice didn't like the Hatter's comments so she wanted to tell him, 'I don't think ...'
The Hatter interrupted her, 'Then you must not speak,' he said. Alice ran away. She was very angry.
'Perhaps they'll call me back and give me some tea and bread and butter,'thought Alice. But they didn't say anything. The Dormouse was asleep. The March Hare and the Hatter were trying to put him in the teapot.
'I'll never go there again!' Alice said.
Suddenly Alice saw a door in a tree. She went in and there she was, in the long hall with the glass table.
'I'll go into the garden this time,' she thought.
Alice took the little golden key and opened the door. Then she ate some bits of mushroom and grew smaller. She walked into the beautiful garden.
