About the first one, it cannot be described in a linear separator. But the first circle and the second one are similar things if we choose another way to describe it ---- distance.
So, it's kind of like, we can use a higher dimension to simplify(describe) the problem. And everything can be described in 1-D.
And in mathematics, we have phi = <x^2, y^2, sqrt(2)xy> to describe it.
