I have enjoyed an app called Hoopla, an app that basically digitized a good portion of the US public library items. It only supports iOS for now.
To be able to use this app, you need to become a member of the US public library and have a library card. After you register, this app allows you to access many library items, such as e-books, music albums, audio books and movies.
What I like best about this app:
1 - You can borrow and download items (including audiobooks and movies) to your device for offline enjoyment.
2 - The number of items you can borrow depends on your library membership.
3 - Your items will be automatically returned at he end of lending time, no charge to the user.
