剧中阉人与首相有这么一段寓言式的对话,我觉得很经典。
阉人:“三个贵人坐在一个房间中,一个国君,一个僧侣,一个富翁。三人之间站着一名普通佣兵,每位贵人都命佣兵杀死另外二人。孰生?孰死?
-Three great men sit in a room,a king,a priest and a rich man.Between them stands a common sellsword.Each great man bids the sellsword kill the other two.Who lives?Who die?
首相:“那得由佣兵决定。”
-Depends on the sellsword
阉人:“是吗?他既没有王冠,也没有金银珠宝,更没有诸神的眷顾。”
-Does it?He has neither crown nor gold nor favor with the gods.
首相:“他有利剑,有决定生死的力量。”
-He has sword,the power of life and death
阉人:“既然生死决定于佣兵,我们又为何假装承认国王的权力至高无上呢?-力量存于人心,信则有,不信则无。”
-But if it's swordsmen who rule,why do we pretend kings all the power? Power resides where men believe it resides.
