1、This would have a phenomenal effect on our society.(C10 Test4 Par4第32句)
phenomenal这个词可能与我们汉语当中的“现象级的”这个词比较接近，其实都是表示天翻地覆的变化。
2、In time， it could even lead to the eradication of famine through the introduction of machines that produce food to feed the hungry.(C10 Test4 Par4第33句)
跟读这句话，我发现自己以前对in time的了解太局限了，只知道表示在什么时间内做什么，及时完成什么的。但in time很有两个其他很重要的用法，一个表示“假以时日，最终”的意思，另一个表示是在对的节奏上。所以总体来说，in time, 有以下三个意思：
及时（赶在截止点前）后常接to do/for sth.，强调“没错过关键节点”，是考试最高频考点The doctor arrived in time to save the dying patient.（医生及时赶到抢救了濒危病人）
最终/迟早（渐进达成）单独作状语放句首/句末，不接后续结构，描述长期发展后的必然结果In time, the new technology will be widely used in every household.（假以时日，这项新技术会走进千家万户）
合节拍/对齐节奏仅用于音乐、行进类场景，搭配to the music/beat，出现频率最低The audience clapped in time to the band's performance.（观众合着乐队的演奏节拍鼓掌）
3、There's even speculation that nano-robots could be used to slow the ageing process, lengthening life expectancy.(C10 Test4 Par4第36句)
speculation在老外日常当中用的很频繁，一方面表示推测，猜想， pure speculation，widespread speculation；另一方面还可以用来表示某种风险很高的投资。比如：He lost heavily in property speculation
lengthen是length这个词的动词形式，表示伸长，拉长
