断断续续看过三遍的电影,有太多人说它类似于女生版的《死亡诗社》,这种类似于春风化雨的电影都难免要和《死亡诗社》做对比。固然沃森小姐的执着和自我让人动容,但似乎诸多配角的表现更让人动容。
Dunst饰演的Betty是剧中最为明显的传统派,也是和Watson针锋相对的角色,虽然在最后她也被Watson感化,选择为自己而活。Dunst在剧中扮演的角色绝对不是最讨喜的,甚至是最可恶的。但是Dunst的转变却是让人最感叹和惊喜的。在婚礼上,新郎终于答应读Betty所写的诗,Betty认为自己胜利了。而婚后丈夫的敷衍与背叛,母亲的嫌弃与退让却让Betty真正绝望,所以她选择和母亲一直唾弃的Levy去外面居住,为自己而活。
Maggie饰演的Levy早熟但是善良,虽然深爱自己的意大利文老师,最终选择了黯然神伤。Levy是一个叛逆的角色,但是每次她都是第一个站出来去保护弱者的那个人。她坚强而勇敢。当Betty用恶毒的话咒骂她,用轻蔑的眼神侮辱她,她却拥Betty入怀,安慰Betty,听Betty最无助最羞耻的秘密。
Joan这个角色明显是为Betty这个角色对立而设,她是最早拥护和爱戴Watson的学生之一,她对Watson充满感激,甚至她差点就可以进入耶鲁。只不过这最后的关口,她选择了结婚而非进入耶鲁读书。她的选择对Watson来说无疑充满了遗憾,但是Joan的回答却也道出了自己的心声。
Joan Brandwyn:
Do you think I'll wake up one morning and regret not being a lawyer?
Katherine Watson:
Yes, I'm afraid that you will.
Joan Brandwyn:
Not as much as I'd regret not having a family, not being there to raise them. I know exactly what I'm doing and it doesn't make me any less smart. This must seem terrible to you.
Katherine Watson:
I didn't say that.
Joan Brandwyn:
Sure you did. You always do. You stand in class and tell us to look beyond the image, but you don't. To you a housewife is someone who sold her soul for a center hall colonial. She has no depth, no intellect, no interests. You're the one who said I could do anything I wanted. This is what I want.
