Now in movie form, her books have gained international success. In fact, she is one of the richest women in the U.K. She had plenty of time to work on her first book, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. That is because she was unemployed at the time. Her only income came from government assistance. She did most of her writing as her infant daughter napped.
One of the reasons her books are so successful is that her main character is a child who has the power to take charge of his own life. Through magic and other things, he always turns a bad situation around in his favor. Although not everyone has the misfortune of being unemployed with plenty of spare time, it is possible to accomplish anything if you set your mind on it.
