张仪已学,游说诸侯。尝从楚相饮,已而楚相亡壁,门下意张仪,曰:“仪贫无行,必此盗相君之璧。”共执张仪,掠笞数百,不服,释之。其妻曰:“嘻!子毋读书游说,安得此辱乎?”张仪谓其妻曰:“视吾舌尚在不?”其妻笑曰:“舌在也。”仪曰:“足矣。”
这句话也适用于今天我要写的学习对象:奥德赛--只要舌头在,赤身裸体也能换一袭华袍。
在经历风浪以后,奥德赛衣不蔽体,极为狼狈。他躲在树林里,不知道的还以为是在树林里迷路的狮子,他的饥饿让他眼神里透露着杀气,仿佛眼前就横躺着一只鹿一样。
He looked like some lion of the wilderness that stalks about exulting in his strength and defying both wind and rain; his eyes glares as he prowls in quest of oxen ship or deer, for he is famished, and will dare break into even a well-fenced homestead
虎落平阳被犬欺。以他这样的处境,估计是犬也看不上他吧。小人总也想做一番大事业嘛,估计把这样的奥德赛仍在他们面前给他们欺负,他们也觉得是狗拿耗子,怕被别人说多管闲事呢!这时候,Nausicaa出现在了他面前,而且没有被他脏兮兮的样子吓到。这时候他是不是应该赶紧跪下要衣服穿啊,好让自己像样一点~

原来是他怕这位陌生的姑娘生气啊。他恳求的口气仍然不失贵族风度(In honeyed and persuansive tone)而且,他也没有一张口就要衣服(把人家哄开心了再说!),而是先夸一顿。这里夸人的技术真的得好好学学!我翻译出来可能会让文章味道减半,不过我可以分析一下啊~
没错你看到的这么一长篇大论都是他在表达自己请求以前,夸赞这位姑娘的部分。要记住人们都更喜欢听赞美之词。我们这里有句方言道:哄死人不偿命。再举一个反面的例子,狐狸为了得到乌鸦嘴里的肉还夸乌鸦嗓子好听呢。所以为了达到自己的目的,不妨先考虑对方的感受,当对方的需求被满足,人家也才会照顾到你啊。下面这一段夸赞的话以I implore your aid开头,还没说要人家怎么帮忙,就开始问人家你是凡人还是神?
I implore your aid—but tell me, are you a goddess or are you a mortal woman?
你要是神也只能是宙斯的女儿黛安娜,因为你有她的气质啊! If you are a goddess and dwell in heaven, I can only conjecture that you are Jove's daughter Diana, for your face and figure resemble none but hers; 估计Nausicaa听了心里能乐开花了。
你要是凡人啊,一定会有人用最丰厚的聘礼去娶你这么亭亭玉立的美少女的!if on the other hand you are a mortal and live on earth, thrice happy are your father and mother—thrice happy, too, are your brothers and sisters; how proud and delighted they must feel when they see so fair a scion as yourself going out to a dance; most happy, however, of all will he be whose wedding gifts have been the richest, and who takes you to his own home.
神人都不够奥德赛来比喻的,他还把自己喜欢的一棵棕榈树来和这位姑娘类比。(他为了夸人真是够拼啊) I never yet saw any one so beautiful, neither man nor woman, and am lost in admiration as I behold you. I can only compare you to a young palm tree which I saw when I was at Delos growing near the altar of Apollo—for I was there, too, with much people after me, when I was on that journey which has been the source of all my troubles. Never yet did such a young plant shoot out of the ground as that was, and I admired and wondered at it exactly as I now admire and wonder at yourself.
说完这些他才开始倒苦水,然后提出请求:在你来这带的所有衣裳中随便找点布片让我过身体吧。这给Nausicaa的感觉是,他是一个Sensible, well-disposed man 然后向他承诺,你来了这不会缺吃少穿哒!最后他从这个国家Phaeacian顺利返程,甚至是满载珠宝啊。
回去之后,为了复仇计划,他变化成一个老人可怜兮兮的在自己曾经的养猪奴那里讨吃喝。但是他还是能用这张嘴赢得养猪奴的好感。真的是君子敬而无失,与人恭而有礼,四海之内皆兄弟也。奥德赛将这句话演绎到了极致。
养猪奴见了他,一边招待他,一边又是咒骂Helen, 又指责求婚者,不过一个成大事的人一定不会把精力浪费在埋怨上的。他当人比养猪奴更痛恨求婚者,不过他还是默默的吃着,然后盘算着复仇计划。勇者无语,语则怯行焉。
听完养猪奴的吐槽,他便抓住了关键:你不是听说你主人为了帮别人报仇死了吗?谁啊他?说不定我能给你点线索呢。在这里他借机会透露给养猪奴,他的主人(也就是他自己)还活的好好的呢。而且声明自己和那些因为饿肚子就来撒谎骗饭的人不一样: I hate a man, even as I hate hell fire, who lest his poverty tempt him into lying.
此外,奥德赛以老人身份,用心的向养猪奴讲了自己的伪造经历——他是一个情妇的孩子,不过他爹一视同仁,他又勇敢,后来娶了有钱人,外出征战然后被伙伴背叛,接着被腓尼基人骗的差点被卖为奴,不过宙斯救了他,他被Thesprotian的国王Pheidon收留了,就是在这,他见了奥德赛,然后Pheidon派人送他走,半路送他的人又想卖他当奴隶,可是他逃跑了,逃到了Itahca。(其实是一本正经的胡说八道,脑洞大开)。
至此,奥德赛达到了三个目的:隐瞒了自己的身份,明确告诉养猪奴奥德赛没死,还因此获得了养猪奴的好感(虽然养猪奴还不怎么相信他说的话)多亏了他细心的讲述,养猪奴后来也为他讲了自己的故事。
下面又是我们的奥德赛经典的找衣服片段。(突然感觉这篇文章题目应该是:用一张嘴找衣服穿)
半夜狂风乱作,暴雨倾盆,他冻的不行,于是他想问牧羊人要衣服穿。可是呢,他也没有直接说冻死我了,给我衣服吧,而是先给自己的话设置了一个前提:
when I have said a prayer I will tell you something. It is the wine that makes me talk in this way; wine will make even a wise man fall to singing; it will make him chuckle and dance and say many a word that he had better leave unspoken; still, as I have begun, I will go on.
我喝醉了才这么说的啊,(你们别往心上去)。
然后他开始长篇大论自己和阿伽门农作战的英勇事迹,终于切入了主题,我打仗的时候冷的不行,就有人把自己的衣服给了我,唉我老啦,你们都嫌弃我,不会给我衣服了。养猪奴听罢给他铺了山羊皮,又盖上了罩衣。
总在别人这里混吃混喝也不是个办法,不知道人家是否嫌弃。他就试探养猪奴,我去城里找点活干,我虽老,尚能干所有下人能干的活。这一下子就让养猪人慌了,人家别人的奴才都人模人样,,你这么老了就别凑热闹了。下面就说出了奥德赛想听的话:
I do not mind you being here, no more do any of the others.等Telemachus回来你就能脱离苦海啦。
于是他们便开始掏心窝子的谈话。用我们白居易的诗句描述一下这个场景吧:绿蚁新醅酒,红泥小火炉。晚来天欲雪,能饮一杯无。
