I watched the cratered road rise and fall, whirl its tail around the mountainside, counted the multicolored trucks packed with squatting men lumbering past. I tried closing my eyes, letting the wind slap at my cheeks, opened my mouth to swallow the clean air. I still didn’t feel better.

SUMMARY
Amir rarely sees Hassan after the tournament. Hassan just prepares everything well, the clothes, breakfast, and so on, then goes back to sleep. Ali asks Amir about what happened to Hassan. Amir says that he does not know, and find some excuse to change the subject.
Amir and Baba go to Jalalabad on Friday. Baba invites another two dozen people travel with them. Amir cann’t help throwing up during the journey. That night, everybody eats lots of food in the traditional way. After that, Baba and his cousins play Poker for a few hours. Then everyone fall a sleep, while Amir thinking about Hassan, and going insomnic that night.
For the rest of the winter, Amir and Hassan hardly talk. Early that spring, a few days before the new school year started, while they are planting tulips in the garden, Amir asks Baba if they can get new servants . Baba is furious.
That summer, under their pomegranate tree, Amir picks an overripe pomegranate to pelt Hassan. He wants Hassan to fight back, but Hassan won't. Eventually, Hassan picks up a pomegranate and crushes it against his forehead.
The chapter ends with Amir's thirteenth birthday party. Assef shows up with a gift for Amir. Rahim Khan gives Amir a leather-bound writing journal as a gift.
