To me becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as a forward motion a means of evolving, a way to reach continuity toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end. I became a mother, but I still have a lot to learn from and give to my children. I became wife, but I continue to adapt to and be humbled by what it means to truly love and make a life with another person. I have become, by certain measures, a person of power, and yet there are moments still when I feel insure and unheard.
正如我在序言中提到的，人生的旅程并不于你到达了某个地方或者获得了某种成就。在我看来，我们在人生的旅程中一路前行。在前进中成长，成为更好的自己。这个旅程没有终点。尽管我后来成为母亲，但我仍然有许多方面需要向我的孩子学习，同时也为他们付出。尽管我后来成为妻子，但我仍然在学习如何与另外一个人谦卑相处，真诚相爱，哺育我们的孩子。从某种意义上，我也确实成为一位有权力的人，但许多时候，我仍然没有安全感，也能感受到别人对我的蔑视。
It’s all a process, steps along a path. Becoming requires equal parts patience and rigor. Becoming is never giving up on the idea that there’s more growing to be done.
人生是一场一路前行的旅程。这场旅程常常需要我们的付出和辛勤的工作。这场旅程也要求我们永不放弃对于成长的追求。
