It was listed as a World Heritage Site in 2011. Besides, each year visitors pour to Qiantang River for the extraordinary surging tide.
杭州拥有丰富的历史文化遗迹。南起杭州，北到北京的京杭大运河始建于1631年，全长约1797公里，是世界上最长、最古老的人工水道。2014年6月22日，京杭大运河正式入选《世界遗产名录》。
The capital abounds with historical and cultural relics. For example, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, built in 1631 and extending northward to a distance of 1,797 kilometers, is the earliest and longest canal in the world. It was named a World Heritage Site on June 22, 2014.
注：
“南起杭州，北到北京”这个信息不是一定要翻译出来的。因为前句是说杭州有很多places of interest，紧接着京杭大运河就是其中一例，说明这条运河就在杭州。加之京杭大运河的名称也包括了杭州、北京这两个起始点，再赘述这两个地方就稍显多余。
“北到北京”和“全长”可以合并到一起翻译，理解为（从杭州）向北延伸1797公里。
“最长、最古老”是对“始建于1631年”和“全长……”的总结体现。因此在排列上要放在“始建于……”和“全长……”后面。另考虑到“最长、最古老”是对事实的表态，建议放主句，“始建于……”、“全长……”就放在句子的从属部分。
在世界上，杭州也颇具有知名度。13世纪，意大利著名旅行家马可·波罗（Marco Polo）在游记中赞叹杭州为“世界上最美丽之城”。2011年，杭州曾被美国《纽约时报》评为全球41个旅游城市之一，被联合国评为“国际花园城市”。

In 2011, it made the list of the “41 Places to Go” by the New York Times and was named the “International Garden City” by the United Nations.
杭州还曾在中美建交过程中扮演重要角色，2015年1月，中国提出发展“旅游外交”。杭州作为著名旅游城市，又率先实践“旅游外交”。
Hangzhou has played an important role in the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and the U.S. This famous tourist city has pioneered the initiative proposed by China to develop “tourism diplomacy” in January 2015.
这篇中译英文章里用到了许多表示“闻名”的词，要注意换词表达。可以表示“闻名”的词或词组有：
形容词：famous, renowned, well-known, celebrated, popular, famed
