My father told me that when he was young, nobody had the slightest idea that cigarettes were bad. It was fashionable to smoke cigarettes.
One movie star always had a cigarettes hanging our of his mouth. Everyone in America was trying to imitate the way he did it. He was such a handsome man and his style became the fashion. Eventually however, he died cancer of the lips.
One of the most famous singers would sing while smoking a cigarette. It was amazing how someone could sing while smoking, but he died of lung cancer when he was only forty.
So doctors began coming up with slogans saying," Cigarettes kill you. Stop Smoking!"
When these messages came out, cigarette smoking became even more popular amongst the youth. Why? Because they were trying to prove to themselves, "I am daring. I am fearless. I don't care if I am risking my life. I am going to do it to be cool. Yes, I know it will kill me. So what?"
Let us begin to see the world around us and learn from the past mistakes. Let us begin listening to good advice, rather than challenging it and destroying ourselves.
