Several years ago, I bought the book The Little Prince for my little sister when she was about 10 years old. I haven’t read the book at that time, but I heard that it is a great book written for children. So I bought the Little Prince for my little sister. She would like it, I thought.
Then on a holiday, I asked my little sister:” what do you think of the Little Prince?”. She said: “just so so, the little prince is not as good as 曹文轩‘s novel”. I said:” Really? I heard it is a great book.”
So I read it and I like it so much. I found that the Little Prince is not a book written for children, it is a book written for adults. The Little Prince tells a beautiful love story. More importantly, it teaches us how to love.
Dear toastmasters and fellow members, tonight I am going to share with something about love: how to love.
The first story happened between the little prince and the rose. The little prince lived in his small planet B-612 alone for a long time.
One day, the rose appeared. She prepared a long time for her blossom. She chose her colors with the greatest care and she adjusted her petals one by one. Then she suddenly showed herself in front of the little prince and said: “my petals are stills all disarranged”. Like a girl spent a long time to make up but didn’t want others know that. The little prince admired her so much and said:“ Oh! How beautiful you are!”.
The rose was proud and she didn’t know how to get along with the little prince. She tormented the little prince so that he could accompany her. She asked the little prince to do many things for her, such like watering her, putting her under a glass glope at night, and she even coughed on purpose to let the little prince feel guilty that he didn’t take care of her.
Although the little prince loved her, he soon come to doubt her. He taken seriously of the words the rose said which the rose didn’t mean it, and it made him very unhappy. He couldn’t guess all the love that lay behind the rose’s poor little strategies.
So the little prince decided to leave. When the little prince decided to leave, the rose finally said that:” I have been silly. I ask your forgiveness” “Of course I love you.” ” It is my fault that you have not known it all the while. That is of no importance. But you-you have been just as foolish as I. Try to be happy”
The little prince and the rose were like young couple, they loved each other, but they didn’t know how to get along and love each other. So they torment each other and said many words they didn’t mean to. Finally, they broke up and the little prince left.
The second story happened between the little prince and the fox.
At that time the little prince went to the earth and stayed in the desert alone for a long time. Then one day the fox appeared and said “good morning” to the little prince. The little prince wanted to make friend with the fox. But the fox said that the little prince had to tamed it at first. Tamed means to established ties.被驯服的
The fox said like that:” If you tamed me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world”.
So, the little prince tamed the fox. He was very patient and sit down at a little distance from the fox in the grass at first and said nothing. And he sat a little closer to the fox every day and tamed the fox.
The fox told the little prince that if you have tamed someone you should responsible for it. The little prince suddenly realized that the rose had tamed him. What the rose had done just want to let him cherish and accompany him. And the fox told the little prince a secret: It is only with heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye. Then the little prince realized that it was the time that he had spent for his rose that makes his rose important to her. He should judge the rose by deeds and not by words. He should know that his rose loved him. So he wanted to come back and be responsible for his rose.
The little prince is a fairy tale for grown－ups. It teaches us about how to love. If you met your rose or if you were the rose, don’t torment the other with your dignity. Sometimes words are the source of misunderstandings. You’d better use your heart to feel the love between you two. What is essential is invisible to the eye. Try to love with the true self. And If you tamed someone you become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed.
