One of things that amazed me during Christmas season is that people put colorful light strips all around their roof, yard fence, trees in the yard, or even have a snowman or deer or Santa Claus light up around the house. Some also have light dots dance with music on the surface of the house. All of those make the house look outstanding under dark sky. Therefore we made some trips specifically just for going to see Christmas lights as one of the delightful things to do during Christmas season. Here are some pix that I took.
So popular Christmas lights make me curious to ask why. I looked it up and found it started in Germany originally. At very beginning, people put candles on Christmas tree to welcome the birth of Jesus and one candle on the windowsill to let others know that they are Christian and you are welcome to our home if you are Christian too. Becuase candles can cause fire easily, there were one company that invented electrical light strips. Then some malls or store departments started to decorate Christmas trees with electrical lights rather than candles. As more and more people can afford to buy electrical lights, decorating Christmas trees and houses with electrical lights become more and more popular. Some people even go crazy about it, spending a fortune on it, making it a competition btw each other.
