致苏东坡的一封信

Almost a thousand years later
几近千年以后
I am asking the same questions you did
我叩问着你问过的相同命题
the ones you kept finding yourself returning to
那些你发现自己不断回返的问句
as though nothing had changed
尽管不曾改变
except the tone of their echo（回音） growing deeper
除了回声的语调更为深远
and what you knew of the coming of age before you had grown old
在年迈之前 你知道时代的老去
I do not know any more now than you did
then about what you were asking
关于你所追问的，我并不比你知道的更多
as I sit at night above the hushed（寂静） valley thinking of you on your river
that one bright sheet of moonlight in the dream of the waterbirds
当我静坐于幽谷之上，思索着在河上的你，
一层明亮的月光，照入水鸟的梦
and I hear the silence after your questions
于是我听见这命题后的肃穆
how old are the questions tonight
今夜这些问题显得多么古老
