Although Joe Biden has been appointed the president for one month, his predecessor, Donald Trump still catch most of the public’s eyes, which is wholly different from the past presidencies.
On the one hand, as Trump was acquitted for inciting the insurrection and escaped his second impeachment ,he continues to extend his sway among the GOP, with 80% approval among the republicans. However, McConnell, a member of the Republican Party, after tolerating Trump for many years, are working to guide the party back to its traditional conservative footing and forcing Republicans to choose their standing points-either standing with or denouncing Trump. What’s more, Trump faces other charges which make him always in the spotlight, such as the investigations into his business deal, the reviewing of cheating in the election votes and the accusation of provoking the riots in Jan.6 attack.
On the other hand, different from Donald Trump, Joe Biden prefers to step back from the spotlights and let his predecessor take the headlines because it can give him enough air and space to make his campaign promises come true without being the target of the Republicans as they were wrestling with Trump’s presidential malfeasance and squabbling among themselves. However, for now, Biden seems to try to take back the spotlights because his ambitious proposals, such as fighting climate change, increasing racial equity and expanding health care, all need America’s buy-in, so he wants to make sure all the news is the American people rather than Donald Trump.
