The misery of civilians stems from the unreasonable legal
astronomy of the government
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. This story was happened in
Romania, in the last period of communism, abortion is still prohibited by law.
Two female college students, Gabita and Otilia, are close friends of her
boudoir, and Gabita’s unexpected pregnancy made her have to find a way to get
an illegal abortion. In a cheap hotel, two young girls met with an illegal abortion
doctor. However, the surgical expenses they could pay
could not meet the abortion doctor's requirements. In order to get her good
friend to get a smooth abortion, Otilia had to satisfy the doctor at the
expense of her own body, and April three weeks and two days.It is the total length of time from pregnancy to abortion by Jiabita.
Everything happens causally. And this movie is precisely because of the social
microcosm of the little people when they encounter things in the social
environment. The story is adapted from a real event.
The director's inspiration for creating the film comes from a series of issues
raised by Romania's ban on abortion.Before 1966,
abortion was legal in Romania, but in 1966, the Romanian government issued a
decree prohibiting abortion. After this decree was
promulgated, many Romanian women became pregnant without any preventive
measures, which led to an increase in Romania’s population, and the film’s
director Cristian Mungiu was born under this condition. The director hopes to see through the film the social life in Romania in the 1980s, and to show that under the weight of abortion decree, people will always compromise in their lives.
Through
the political history of Romania, we can understand that the People's
Democratic Government of Romania was fostered by the Soviet Union in the open
and secret struggles with the United States and Britain, and it lacks a solid
mass foundation (LongBin Xu, 2018). This
also led to the formulation of a national policy or law during this period
without careful consideration. When they come from the people, they should measure legal policies
from the people's perspective. The formulation of
laws and regulations is a bottom line for people's lowest moral standards. When reproductive rights are defined as laws, and there are
special personnel to carry out abnormal supervision and statistics.Even women’s menstrual periods must be reported on time with
accurate dates, and even the number of remaining children must be set in laws
and regulations. And this is only because senior leaders believe that those who are born are labor, and they are not treated as a whole person. An article has recorded that regardless of its mechanism, social control of reproduction legislates, convicts and punishes women’s behavior and actions under the guise of protecting the fetus during pregnancy or hypothetical pregnancy (Doan & Corinne, 2020).In
1966, the government promulgated a law prohibiting abortion, which was not
abolished until 1989, when the socialist government ended in Romania.During this period, about half a
million Romanian women died in humiliation because of the safety of secret
abortions. For that period of history, abortion not only meant some wrong and sinful moral behavior, but also related to the betrayal and confrontation of the state system. The director lives from the Romanian and he know the background and that history. He tries his best to tell the audience what happened in that period.
The Soviet government promulgated a policy of prohibiting abortion
in 1936, aimed at making up for the population loss caused by the Great Famine,
and providing human resources for industrialization and national security.
Practice has shown that stimulating population growth is a systematic project,
which is affected by material living conditions and Education level, social work and housework
intensity, social production methods, marriage durability, and social security
levels are restricted by many factors, which can not be achieved by the
government with a single order. Without considering the above factors, blindly
adopting administrative orders to increase the birth rate,it must fail (Zhang Dan,2015). Due to historical and political issues, tragedies about reproductive rights are being staged among people in this country. For example, the root cause of
illegal doctors is related to the distribution of medical schools. At the
birthday party, they only talk about the distribution of medical schools. These
social problems are the same as the heroine in the drama who has no money for
surgery and cannot cope with it.The sudden new life
has formed a reflection on Romania during the economic downturn. How can the
value of human beings and the value of life be realized in a sluggish society?
What they need is not money, but change. The heroine sold her body for the
so-called friendship during the whole incident. Sadly, during this whole
incident, she only moved herself. She thinks that it
is a good thing to help her friends solve problems, but it is a pity that her
friends do not appreciate it, but think it should be.The incomprehension of the people around him and the relentless
pressure of reality face the heroine.
4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. This film is not only a story saying that under the background of the anti-human pregnant, how does a woman face. It also has a Romanian history book to reflect the people how their life live better or not when they face the unfair law. this film can attract audience because it really reflects audience to notice that period which the woman can not decide their fate. The basic human rights is controlled by the government, that is really tragic.
