Today is Wednesday.
Papa certainly loved the family, but sometimes he felt lonesome in the family with six females. He would like to talk some man-to-man thing with Charlie. The girls also adored Charlie, especially Ella. And Charlie liked the children too and loved to do someting for them. The children's entrance made the cold and damp place warmer and happier. Charlie tossed Gertie high in the air and caught her, which made her squeal with delight and ask for another one. Charlie satisfied her and told the children that their papa had prepared a surprise for the children. Papa let Charlie take the children to the paper section and show them a load of books. The children was extremely happy for knowing that there were some books in the shop and asked Papa the questions about the books all at the same time. Papa told them the books were taken by a peddler from a rich man who had moved to another place and would not take these books with him. Papa also told them that they could pick up some of the books they liked and keep them forever. Hearing that they might own a book, the children rushed pell-well into the paper section without hesitation joyfully.
