放学回家路上,我又当起了安静的听众。姐弟俩总用英文交流。
四弟提起:“I have swimming today."
三妹马上附和:“Oh yes, you did have swimming today."
四弟感叹:“Swimming lesson was boring. I didn't learn anything new. It's a waste of my time."
三妹接话说:“Oh, that's because you are ahead. Guess what I saw today at school!"
四弟问:“What? ? What did you see??"
三妹忍住笑:“I saw clothes lying around on the floor outside of a classroom."
四弟大笑:“That would be the preppies! What's wrong with those kids?!"
四弟自己是二年级学生,他口中的preppies 是指学前班的学生。
三妹快要忍不住笑:“There was an underware with Elsa and a little boy came out and said it was his. Isn't that funny?"
姐弟俩旋即放声大笑。四弟的笑声尤其大,在封闭的车里令我感到耳膜备受冲击。
而他那句“What's wrong with those kids?!" 则让我想起多年前公公说过的一句话。
那一回,先生开车载他外出购物,路过一个养老中心,远远望见聚在一起晒太阳的一大群老人。到家后,已年过九十的公公对婆婆叙述见闻:"We went by an age care centre. Hmmmm, there are a lot of old people in there! "
