At $3.6bn, Facebook’s fourth-quarter profit was more than twice that of the year before, though an accounting-rule change was responsible for almost $1bn of that. It lost a $500m lawsuit brought by ZeniMax,which accused Facebook’s Oculus of stealing virtual-reality technology. Apple again became the world’s biggest smartphone seller, announcing record quarterly revenue of $78bn and sales of over 78m phones.
