啰嗦几句... ...
食用指南:这个视频每一句都会停顿一下,一是为了练习你的听力,先听后看,如果只是看字幕能看懂,是远远不够的,所以在练习的时候,尽量在没有字幕的时候反复听,听懂句子。二是为了留时间给你跟读句子,先听后读,听和说往往是一起进步的,所以要经常张嘴模仿,体会他们的重读/弱读/连读/浊化,对一些人来说可能很难,那就多暂停,一点点消化。当然为了不影响你看剧的快乐,还是老样子,看三遍,慢慢来。更多学习心得,请参考另一篇文章:看剧学英语指南
立flag:根据视频的分p更新,通常一集分3p,尽量每天更一p的学习笔记。这个系列的笔记涉及到的单词仅仅是剧里的意思,我变懒了,很多词的一词多义要自己去查咯。
顺带说一句,我的解释和例句都来自 剑桥英语字典, 很正规的又简洁的全英语网上字典。那就直入主题吧!
- There's never anything newsworthy about my life.
- newsworthy: interesting enough to be described in a news report:
eg.
-Nothing newsworthy ever happens around here. It's so boring.
-This leads us to consider what makes something newsworthy.
- I made breakfast for my family, I performed my chores, I completed my projects, I ran my errands.
- I performed my chores = I did my chores = I done my household chores = 干家务
(chores /tʃɔːr/: a job or piece of work that is often boring or unpleasant but needs to be done regularly.)
eg.
-I'll go shopping when I've done my chores (= done the jobs in or around the house).
-I find writing reports a real chore (= very boring). - completed my projects
(project这个词并不是仅仅指大工程和大项目,小的日常生活中的活儿也可以叫project。比如:学生在学校的手工作业,家庭里面的一些小的修修补补的活儿。) - ran my errands
(“run errands”=“办杂事”,“办点事”,“跑腿儿”,这个说法在生活中非常常用,在致命女人这个剧里也出现多次。)
eg.
-If I ask her to run an errand for me, she would be unhappy.
-May I leave now? I need to run some errands.
- I quietly polishing the routine of my life, until it gleamed with perfection.

- be gleamed with perfection
(没什么好说的,就是觉得polish和gleam /ɡliːm/ 的用法很妙,抛光我生命中的日常琐事,直到它完美到发光。之前没有注意可以这样用,很有逼格。)
- who'd been startled by a strange popping sound.
- startled /ˈstɑː.təld/:surprised and slightly frightened.
eg.
-He was startled when dozens of strangers showed up at his office.
- She tried to think of a reason for dropping in on me unannounced.
- unannounced: If someone arrives unannounced, they arrive suddenly and unexpectedly.
eg.
-Several unannounced(adj.)acts made this concert special.
-He just came to our home, unannounced, from another city.
-The principal dropped in unannounced(adv.) at the classrooms very often.
- She stood motionless in her kitchen, grief-stricken by the this senseless tragedy.
- motionless = without moving
eg.
-He looks made of stone, utterly motionless (= completely without movement). - grief-stricken: deeply affected by sorrow or distress.
- senseless: not at all reasonable, or with no good or useful purpose.
eg.
-a senseless prank/argument
-senseless killings/violence/deaths
- It was her ability to look on the bright side.
- look on the bright side [idiom]: to highlight the good in an otherwise bad situation.
eg.
-Looking on the bright side, I'll have plenty of time to start my own business now that I'm unemployed.
-I know you're disappointed, but you need to look on the bright side.
- I was laid to rest on a Monday.
- laid to rest 安息,入土为安
eg.
-He was laid to rest yesterday without a final goodbye from his estranged son
- She was toughed when tears welled up in his eyes.
- well up: come up (as of feelings and thoughts, or other ephemeral (/ɪˈfemərəl/ 短暂的,瞬息的)things) 涌出
eg.
-(feelings)Strong emotions welled up/ A feeling of revulsion began to well up inside Fred/ Burning resentment welled up
-(things)Smokes welled from it / Tears welled up from eyes/ The blood welled up from the wound/ Clear water welled up out of the rocks.
- He closed a big deal.
- closed a big deal 成交一笔大买卖,注意close在这里的用法。
- Why not pin the receipt to my chest.
- pin 将……用针别住, 觉得这个怼人的地方很有趣。
- She's many talents were known throughout the neighborhood.
- were known throughout the neighborhood 家喻户晓
- You shouldn't have gone to all this trouble. -It was no trouble at all.
(这里的trouble是不用如此大费周章,不是责怪你好麻烦的意思。) - I know you're out of your minds with grief.
- grief:very great sadness, especially at the death of someone.
