01 Introduction
Lately, many friends ask me to introduce some books about self-improvement and education. Some of them said that it could be hard for them to focus on reading, and asked me for advice. My answer was that you didn’t have to force yourself to do something, you might read whenever you wanted to read. But they said that they were upset sometimes, and wanted to change themselves through reading. Then an idea came into my mind, holding a reading workshop may be a great solution.
The first reason is that I think studying should be comfortable. One cannot make progress if he or she resists something. Additionally, studying alone can be very lonely, but it can be extremely fun if you learn with someone else. Then here comes the question, is reading helpful? If yes, how to make full use of it?
Only if you have a keen observation and concentration, and are able to rethink thoroughly about yourself, can reading improve you indeed. We need to be true to ourselves through reading, that is, we should practice we have learned from reading and make it our own.
Does reading loud or silently really change someone? I don’t think so. The better way is intensive reading as well as experiences. Although I may not be good enough, I want to take this chance to introduce you to the fantastic world of books. I think share generates a better understanding.
During about 3 months, we will read 3 books thoroughly together. We will sit together to discuss your concerns related to education as well as the grow of parents themselves.
02 What will we do and what will you learn in this reading workshop?
We will read one core book and two other books carefully during this period. It’s not just reading, more something that sharing thoughts and experiences. It consists of summarizing the books and expanding the contents. We will have some activities after every class to help you make use of the knowledge you have learned. There will be a specific goal every week for you to achieve. You can choose a partner to enhance your study.
We will enjoy at least two beautiful articles a week together. I will read every feedback carefully and reply as soon as possible. You can also discuss it with others in our group. You will listen to other’s stories, think about yourself, thereby making changes. All in all, you will make improvements with others during the 3 months.
Pleasure, benefits and love are what we pursue during this activity. I wish each of us would find the sense of belonging and the power of making improvements.

04 Books
Core book: Playful Parenting
Author: Lawrence J. Cohen
Abstract: Have you ever stepped back to watch what really goes on when your children play? As psychologist Lawrence J. Cohen points out, play is children’s way of exploring the world, communicating deep feelings, getting close to those they care about, working through stressful situations, and simply blowing off steam. That’s why “playful parenting” is so important and so successful in building strong, close bonds between parents and children…
Minor: 1. Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind
Author: Shunryu Suzuki
Abstract: "In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities, but in the expert's, there are few." So begins this most beloved of all American Zen books. Seldom has such a small handful of words provided a teaching as rich as has this famous opening line. In a single stroke, the simple sentence cuts through the pervasive tendency students have of getting so close to Zen as to completely miss what it's all about. An instant teaching on the first page. And that's just the beginning…
