Have you ever put your trousers in the washing machine and then remembered there
was a large bank note in your back pocket? When you rescued your trousers, did you
find the note was white than whiter? People who live in Britain needn't worry about it
when they make mistakes like this. A special department of the Bank of England called Mutilated Ladies has been established to clamp down on claims from people who fed
their money to machine or to their dog. This can be illustated by Jane Butlin's fiance
John, a furniture businessman, who had got his notes turned to ash because Jane
cooked her fiance's wallet into the microwave oven. John did not tell Jane that he had
put his wallet containing £3,000 into the microwave for safekeeping. With dismay, John hastened to see his manager who then sent the remains of his wallet and notes to the
Mutilated Ladies. It was owing to Mutilated Ladies that all his money was paid back. As a spokewoman for the Mutilated Ladies said,‘So long as there is something to identify, we'll give people their money back. Last year, we paid £1.5m on 21,000 claims.’
