1. But you must not suppose that the months of waiting passed so happily as I had dreamed in my first transports. They were full of sorrow and care, full of loathing for the baseness of mankind.
「transport」本意是“运送，运输”。这里的意思是“欣喜若狂，喜不自胜”。
第二句话的「 they 」就是指前面的「 months 」，这句话就是说，等待孩子出生的这几个月不像我当初想象得那么幸福快乐。这几个月也充满了伤痛（ sorrow ）和烦恼（ care ），充满了对人类卑劣行径（ baseness of mankind ）的憎恶。
2. A week before my confinement, the few crown-pieces that remained to me were stolen by my laundress, so I had to go to the maternity hospital.
产前一个礼拜，陌生女人最后的几枚金币也被一个洗衣妇从柜子里偷走了，真是雪上加霜。「 crown-piece 」指五先令的硬币，硬币的正面印有维多利亚女王（ Queen Victoria ），背面是屠龙勇士圣乔治（ St George ），长下面这样~
3. The child, your son, was born there, in that asylum of wretchedness, among the very poor, the outcast, and the abandoned.
这句话结构不难，提醒大家注意下「 the + adj. 」表示一类人群这个用法，我们平时见到的「the rich」、「the poor」，以及这里的「the outcast」和「the abandoned」都是如此~
这个孩子，你的儿子就出生在那儿，出生在那个破败的收容所（asylum of wretchedness ），出生在一群穷困潦倒（ the very poor ）、无家可归（ the outcast ）、被人遗弃（ the abandoned ）的人中间。
