注2. information 意思是消息、情报,一些公共场所的服务部门挂上“information”的牌子,表示此处是问讯处。information desk 是问讯台。
注3. department 意思是部门。等下机构的 一个部门,可以用部、司、局、处、科等,department store 是“百货商店”,因百货商店中分各部门,各部门就称 department,如:

 Book Department(图书部)
 Mes' Department(男子用品部)
 Games Department(体育用品部)
 Jewellery Department(首饰部)

2. That's why I come here.

(Mr Thomas always comes to the department store on Saturday afternoons. It's funny that he never buys anything. Now, it's Saturday afernoon again. Best day of the week. And there he is.)
Mr Thomas: Where can I see a football match?
Jean: Well, at Wembley, I suppose.
Barbara: Or at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea play there.
Mr Thomas: And where can I play football?
Jean: In the park.
Mr Thomas: Anywhere else?
Barbara: At a football ground.
Mr Thomas: I like listening to music as well. Where can I listen to music?

Jean: In the television department.
Mr Thomas: Right! And where can I play football?
Barbara: In the games department!
Mr Thomas: Right! And where can I listen to music?
Jean: In the music department, of course.
Mr Thomas: And then, when I want something to eat and drink, where can I get it?
Barbara: In the self-service restaurant.
Jean: And then you can go to the book department to read!
Mr Thomas: That's it. And that's why I come here every Saturday, girls. I have a very good afternoon.

注4. Wembley,Stamford,Chelsea 都是英国的地名。
注5. I suppose 和 I think 都可以作“我想”解。但 I suppose 有猜想、估计的意思。I think 是我认为,我想象的意思。
注6. listen 是不及物动词,听什么东西用 listen to …,听谁讲话也用 listen to …。如:
 listen to me.(听我说。)
 listen to the record.(听唱片。)
 listen to the music.(听音乐。)
 listen to the radio.(听收音机。)

注7. seif 自己,service 服务,self-service 是自己为自己服务的意思。self-service shop 是无人售货商店;self-service restaurant 是无服务员的餐厅,吃什么,自己取后在一柜台上算账。
注8. That's it. 意思是就是这么回事,正是如此。这里是 it 是泛指谈论着的事情。还可以说:That's all there is to it.(整个这是这么回事。)
注9. That‘s why … 这样的句型要用来说明做某事的原因。why … 是表语从句。

Telephone guide: Welcome to London. Here are something to see and do. The British Museum is always a good place to go to. It's open from ten o'clock this morning until five o'clock this afternoon, and admission is free. There's an important exhibition on at the British Museum. It's called 'The Viking' and it's about the way the vikings lived, worked and travelled. The exhibition costs £1.50 for adults and 70 pence for children. The British Museum is in Great Russell Street. To get there, take the underground to Tottenham Court Road.
