Lucy, a ten-year old girl with long straight black hair and big dark eyes, is the main character of this story.

One day, Lucy’s mother asked her to buy some milk and do housework when she came back. However, Lucy didn’t want to do it at all and the only she wants to do is become a tree. That is because every time when she saw a tree, she would stand next to the tree and keep yelling: “Look at that tall tree, I just want to stand there and do nothing like it!”

Suddenly, a voice came from behind her said “Trees aren't as alive as you think”. Lucy was startled, she turned around quickly but didn’t see anyone, so she asked “hey who are you?” The voice replied “I am the tree that you just talked about”. Lucy was shocked because the tree can talk!

“It is so bored to being a tree for the whole life.” The tree explained “From being grown to being chopped down, you're always here, sunny or stormy. After being cut off, you don't know what you will be made into, paper? furniture? House? We can't decide our own life. So if I had to choose, I would like to be a human being instead of a tree.”

Lucy thought about it for a while, and felt that what the tree said made sense: Instead of standing there like a tree and doing nothing, it is better to do something meaningful as a human being. So she immediately went to the supermarket to buy milk, and never wanted to be a tree again.
