How to convert movie files into the listening practice materials?

Everyone knows that watching English movies is an efficient way to improve the English listening skills. You need to watch a film again and again to catch or comprehend the dialogues. Compared to just listening to an audio, watching is more useful because the scenes or videos help you understand what the characters are saying. You need to pay attention and use your eyes when watching, though.

If only it's possible to extract the audios and subtitles of these movies and find some softwares to be able to play them on the smartphone, we could listen the audio while doing other things, and check the subtitle when encountering unfamiliar words. That would make practicing English listening skills easy and convenient to do anytime and anywhere.

To make the above mentioned probable, I searched for some ways to achieve it:

1. Obtain the subtitle and convert the subtitle file into LRC form;
2. Extract the audio out of the movie and save it in MP3 form;
3. Upload the audio file and subtitle file into the website - Daily English Listening;
4. After these steps, you can use the smartphone software - "Daily English Listening" to play the listening materials easily.

We know KMV file is a kind of movie file and it is widely used. My solution is based on KMV movie file.

1. How to obtain the subtitle of the movie?

A lot of movie players have the function of getting the subtitle from the internet for the movie automatically and can save the subtitle as SRT file, you can use this function to obtain the subtitle. The movie player I used is the Thunder Video.

2. How to convert the subtitle file into LRC form?

SRT subtitle file can't be used in the website - "Daily English Listening", it must be converted into LRC form. We can use the software - "Subtitle Converting Assistant" to convert the file.

3. How to extract the audio out of the movie?

I tried the software - MKVToolNix to extract the audio out of the movie, but the audio file's form is MKA, MKA file can't be accepted by the Daily English Listening.

After seeking in the internet, I changed to the software - Youku, it can save the audio into MP3 file.

4. How to upload the audio file and subtitle file into the website - Daily English Listening?

The upload entrance address of the website - "Daily English Listening" is http://my.eudic.net/upload , You can upload your audio files and subtitle files into the website according to the guidance.

5. How to listen to the audios you uploaded?

Congratulations! Your listening practice material has been ready. There are two ways to use it:

1- Visit the website " http://my.eudic.net/ ", play it by the computer;

2- Install the software - "Daily English Listening" in your smartphone, play it by the smartphone.
