Some employers are giving increased importance to employing people with good social skills in addition to good qualifications. Do you agree or disagree social skills are as important as good qualifications for success in their jobs?

When it comes to achieving success in jobs, employees’ good qualifications and social skills are of equal importance. Accordingly, employers are increasingly focusing on employees’ social skills as well as their good qualifications.
There is no denying that good qualifications including professional knowledge, working experience, organizational ability, and time management and so forth are indispensable for an individual’s career success. Actually, substantial jobs still demand sufficient professional knowledge. For example, a person with eye trouble will go to an oculist rather than a dentist because ophthalmology and dentistry are totally different medical domains, which require doctors to possess corresponding qualifications. In this case, qualifications obviously matter more than social skills.
However, as new industries are springing up and existing ones are increasingly diversified, a wide variety of projects no longer demand employees to be equipped with adequate professional knowledge; instead, a synthesis of social skills such as communicative skills, interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, conflict resolution skills etc are crucial for employees to accomplish certain tasks.
Furthermore, the majority of jobs rely on close interaction between employees. An employee may have to work in a team day-in, day-out, or he may be in a largely independent role that only requires occasional meetings with colleagues. Thus, skills of communication and negotiation are essential. A wonderful example of this is that a plurality of social skills may facilitate managing networks, making films, and designing new products and so on. Anyhow, any successful team project is more heavily reliant on individuals' cooperation and collaboration, and these are also vital social skills.
Considering all of this, social skills are no less important than good qualification for occupational success. Therefore, if a job seeker can clearly demonstrate social skills in conjunction with his qualifications, then he will be in with a fighting chance for any job that he is qualified for.
