天 下 皆 知 美 之 为 美 ， 斯 恶 已 。
When the world knows the idea of beauty, it implies the idea of ugliness.
皆 知 善 之 为 善 ， 斯 不 善 已 。
When the world knows the idea of kindness, it implies the idea of unkindness.
故有 无 相 生 ， 难 易 相 成 ， 长 短 相 形 ，高 下 相 倾， 音 声 相 和 ， 前 后 相 随 。
Therefore, existence and nothingness interdepend in growth; difficulty and easiness interdepend in completion; length and shortness interdepend in shape; high and lowness interdepend in position; speech and sound interdepend in harmony; front and behind interdepend in company.
是 以 圣 人 处 无 为之事 ，行 不 言 之 教 。
The sage manages matters in a non-doing manner, and preaches in a non-speaking manner.
万 物 作 焉而 不辞 ，生 而 不有 ， 为 而 不 恃 ， 功 成 而 弗 居 。
Everything emerges and develops according to their own nature without being interfered or taken possession of. Actions are taken, but there is no claim of self-importance; accomplishments are made, but there is no claim of credit.
夫 唯 弗居 ， 是 以 不 去 。
It is because there is no claim of credit of one’s accomplishment that the credit cannot be taken away from him.
