<I am water> is one of the Scholastic Reader series, by Jean Marzollo, illustrated by Judith Moffatt. Simple text and colorful cut-paper illustrations combine in a celebration of the beauty and usefulness of water that depicts such objects as a rainy day, steam cooking, and ice cubes. Children would learn about different styles of water. Water is one of the important things around us in the world. Lives all come from water! Cherish every drop of water! And they would find out that the water cycling is amazing.
I am all that, and I am more.
以上说的全都是,还有更多关于我的东西。
Watch me, watch over me, I am water.
看看我, 照顾我,我是水。
I chose this book to read with my children and my nephews. They are all students in different grades in primary school. That was a little bit challenging!
Step one. Before reading, let the children discussed about the styles of liquid water.
The children all knew that. I asked them to make a sentence with the word “water” one by one.
For example,
I drink water every day.
I swim in the water.
Although their English was not good enough, they were really glad to say something about it.
Step two. Reading the story. Taught them the phonetic when there was a new word. For example, sledding (sl-e-ding). They learned the new words fast.
Step three. Learn more about water
Actually, the children all knew that in Chinese, so they would easily learn the new words in English.
Finally, we watched a video of the water cycling together. We also learned about how to save the water around us. We should never pollute the water on the earth!
