With the development of science and technology, cars have become an indispensable part of people's life, and the increase in the number of cars has become a major problem in some big cities.Parking may seem like a“pedestrian” topic . However, parking is of increasing importance in metropolitan areas worldwide. On average, motor vehicles are parked 95% of the time. Yet most transport analysis focuses on vehicles when they are moving. In the central part of the city, when cars cannot find parking Spaces in time, they will constantly look for places around commercial buildings, or even find a place to park illegally on the roadside. As a result, the roads used to pass are actually occupied by parking, and the road resources available to other vehicles are compressed, further exacerbating the congestion. One of the serious problems is overloading parking lots downtown. And many people think that the solution to this problem is that the government should spend more space on parking lots and build a modern public transportation network around the city center.
First of all, the advantage of building a modern public transportation network around the city center is that it is convenient for people's life. Starting from the elevated parking lot and the underground parking lot, the capacity of the parking lot can be significantly improved. As a result, it is easy for those who want to go downtown to find parking lots, especially businessmen and taxi drivers. Secondly, studying the public transport network is a way to reduce parking pressure, because it reduces the demand for individual vehicles. Citizens can use public transportation to get from one place to another easily and comfortably, so people don't need to drive to the city center. Thus, this is an advantage of having a car park in the city centre.
On the other hand, this method also has some disadvantages. It is extremely difficult to build more parking Spaces or public transport networks in an existing city. Traditionally, transport planners believed that generous parking allocations provided substantial benefits to users. In reality, excessive parking is known to adversely affect both transport and land use. These impacts, along with recent land-use, society economic and technological trends, are prompting cities to start asking some important questions about parking. So during the construction process, it may take a long time and cause a lot of traffic jams.people of all ages are moving from outer suburbs to inner cities. For many, this means less driving because walking, cycling and public transport are more convenient in inner cities. In addition, if parking is limited in the city center, the cost will be very expensive. This can be difficult for those who often drive to the city centre. Therefore, this is the disadvantage of having a car park in the city centre.
In conclusion, although there are some disadvantages in the downtown area, the solution to the parking problem developing more large parking lots and diversified public transportation has many advantages, such as reducing the existing pressure of limited parking lots and removing a large number of traffic from city streets. So I support this kind of urban planning.(521)
