According to the statistics, more than 60% of the adults never finish reading a compete book in one year in China. Maybe they think it unimportant to read books. However, reading can bring us lots of benefits, which the other activities can't make up.
First, reading can help improve our concentrating and our momery. You know it is really difficult to stop thinking, because our mind keep operating even when we are sleeping. You may have heard that meditation can help to focus, reading is just working in the same way. When you read, your mind stop working purposelessly and you have to remember lots of people, events, details. Only in that way can you understand the content. And when you remember, amazing things begin to happen, your brains create new synapses and strengthen existing ones. Once the quantity is large enough, you'll remember it forever.
Second, reading can help rich your vocabulary and improve your presentation skills.Being articulate and well-spoken is of great help in any profession, so we all want to have these presentation skills. But how can we gain them if we don't practice. It is obvious that the more you read, the more words you gain. When you meet the words often enough, you'll be able to make it into your everyday vocabulary. When you read, you learn from the writers, you get their viewpoints and ways of thinking. Once you become knowledgeable, you can speak to your leaders with self-confidence and definitely this can help improve your self-esteem.
And then, third, I would say reading can help improve critical thinking. Sometimes we're realy easy to be trapped into confusing problems. In some circumstances, we don't know if what we know is right or not, then books are our best teachers. They are really patient and welcome all the time. If you want, you can find almost all the answers of the problems except for some ultimate philosophical ones. Should you ever have an opportunity to discuss a book with others or to figure out a problem, you must state your opinions clearly. You'll have to learn to consider all the pros and cons. Then, read, books won't let you down.
In sum, begin with picking the book that suits you, cultivate your interests in reading, be a reading man.
