Lesson 45 A clear conscience
The whole village soon learnt that a large sum of money had been lost.
Sam Benton, the local butcher, had lost his wallet while taking his savings to the post office.
Sam was sure that the wallet must have been found by one of the villagers, but it was not returned to him.
Three month passed, and then one morning, Sam found his wallet outside his front door.
It had been wrapped up in newspaper and it contained half the money he had lost, together with a note which said "a thief, yes, but only fifty per cent a theif"
Two month later, some more money was sent to Sam with another note "only 25 percent a theif now"
In time, all Sam's money was paid back in this way
the last note said "I am 100 percent honest now"

a clear conscience 问心无愧
clear 无罪的，不亏心的。If you say that your conscience is clear, you mean you do not think you have done anything wrong.
conscience /ˈkɑnʃəns/良心，道德心。Conscience is doing what you believe is right even though it might be unpopular, difficult, or dangerous.
village 村庄
learnt /lɜːʳnt/
a large sum of 一大笔，表示数量很多
butcher /ˈbʊtʃər/屠户，a person whose work is killing animals or dressing their carcasses for meat
be returned to 送还
passed 经过（一段时间），When a period of time passes, it happens and finishes.

练习感悟：
之前在对照原文纠错时没注意对纠正边翻译，这次尝试之后发现，有些内容，尤其是词组类的内容，很多时候自己能写出来（单词并不难），但根本不知道意思，无法做到顺畅的理解。所以以后在进行内容练习时，要注意词组和句意。
