The willpower instinct:License to sin

CH4 License to sin:Why being good gives us permission to be bad

Trap1:Moral licensing trap:use “good” behavior to give yourself permission to do sth bad.

When gaining progress, indulge in something that be away from the long term goal.

solution1: Don’t mistake goal-supportive actions for the goal itself

ask yourself: How much progress you have made on your goal

Trap2:borrowing credit for tomorrow optimism licenses us to indulge today.

Solution2: reduce the variability in your behavior, not the behavior of yourself. Do I really want the consequence of putting off?

Trap3:Halo effect / What we want isn’t bad

solution3:When halo effect get in the way of  your willpower challenge, look for the most concrete measure of whether a choice is consistent with your goals.
