作品1 Sweet Memories with Granny
选手:040 杨丽娟
I was writing my homework carelessly on the sofa, so that I could go out to play with friends.
Granny was busy doing housework in the kitchen, but she still kept telling me to come home early when I rushed out.
Happy time always flies. I heard granny calling my nick name at the end of the street, and it was time to bed. I tore myself away following behind my granny in a sweat.
It was quiet at night, and neighbors went to bed early. I mostly could hear they were murmuring in the house. I switched on the TV, which was a 12 inch shabby black & white TV set ,and there were seldom entertainment programs I was interested in, so I used to choose the singing program so that I could fall asleep with the popular songs singing around.
Granny was a hard-working woman. Since grandpa died early, she had been in charge of the vegetable field, including all the poultry.
I loved to help granny take care of the vegetable, although I was too small to hold the sprinkler. But I really enjoyed it when the water spraying onto the crops. I knew, when next season coming, we would reap what we sow.
One day, granny's pig ran out of his sty. Maybe he could not stand the disgusting smell in it too. However, granny was out and there was only me in the house. How could I do? All of a sudden, an idea came to my mind, and then I locked him in the house, together with me. I watched him running hither and thither, roaring here and there until granny came home.
Another day, I was chased by the duck that granny kept. It was so horrible that I still remembered the feeling, and never ever touched the duck again. But luckily, not so long after that, the duck was gone.
It became a dish on the table, but I hate it, so I didn't touch it.
I liked hens a lot, because they never bit me,more importantly, they produced delicious eggs and cute chicks. What a beautiful thing when I found an egg in its house.
Granny was a magical woman. She knew a lot that I hardly believed. Sometimes, those things actually had proved to be truth that I still doubted whether they were coincidental.
One day at midnight, it was hailing outside. I was frightened by the thunder and light. Granny said“It's ok. It's just a dragon underground yawning, and I am going to calm him down". So she got up, and then I heard the hoeing sound from downstairs. After a while, the hailstone stopped.
When it was a fine day,Granny would make a bed on the loft, so we could sleep there with twinkle stars shining up in the sky. She had tremendous fairy tales which passed down from generation to generation, and one of them is about cuckoo.
When I was sick, granny took me to the doctor and accepted any requirement I asked although she was quite thrift to herself; when I encountered difficulty, granny always encouraged me to face it and conquer it. Granny took care of me nearly 20 years.
Granny was a warm-hearted woman. She had friends wherever she was. When I grew up, she lived with us in the city. She always gave foods and clothes to the poor in the village, and she also told me I should be a good person in the future, and don't forget the people who once helped us.
If mother means the one who cherishes you and makes you who you are today. My granny is my mother. If I had a chance,I would like to tell her "Thank you for being with me for your whole life, and I will remember you all the time. Thank you for the sweet memories you gave me. I love you forever."
作品2 To Mother
选手:052 张媛媛
Dear judges, fellow participants, and friends, my name is Rhine (Yuanyuan Zhang).
My topic today is, To Mother.Mother is the most important person in one's life and so is in mine. She sacrifices all she has for the family, not just money, but her entire life. I am always grateful for my mother, but I never had a chance to properly thank her. Tonight, everyone, please allow me to take this precious moment and say something to my beloved mother.
Dear Mom,
In my impression, you are a quiet, hardworking and very determined woman. At the age of 50, you got your driver's license so that you can visit my grandparents more often and take care of them.
You don't talk much, I remembered all you had to say when I was little was "take care of yourself when I'm away". You are so selfless and will pay every penny only to get me to the best school, to learn painting lessons, or to buy the most up-to-date backpack. You taught me everything. You raised me as an independent girl.
Things changed a bit when I had to leave you for college. Every week, on our routine call, you were the one that started the conversation. But mostly, you complained. You complained a lot, from the smallest things to issues with every family member. I was so surprised that you could talk and talk for so long till my phone got hot. You were not the same person I remembered.
At first, I was glad that someone could hear you out. So I listened, and I tried to comfort you, to distract you from the daily chores. However, you were too tired trying to take care of everyone else. You had no time of your own.
Sooner I got frustrated. I knew every word you were about to say. But I was too far away from home there's nothing I could do to help you. So I started to make excuses, about being busy with my school work and hang up before you had to say anything. I even blamed you sometimes for giving me so much stress and negative energy.
I knew I must have hurt your feelings. But you just went back to silence again.
As I grew older, I started to realize, who will hear you out other than your own daughter. Once I had a chance to ask you about that unusual time. You told me that you had a hard time experiencing menopause and didn't know how to cope with it. Besides, you were just trying to find every topic you knew to communicate with me, to feel more connected when I was away. You said you were sorry.
Hearing this, I was so shocked and embarrassed. Mom, don't be sorry because I really regret what I had done or said at that time. I'm the one to apologize, for ignoring your feelings, for trying to cut you out of my life.
If I could go back through time, I would tell you that it's ok if you couldn't please everyone. It's ok to be upset and to have your own emotions. And thanks for trusting me and expressing your feelings to me. I was never away, and I would always return back to you, to make you proud.
I didn't know the meaning of a mother until I became a mother of my own child. All those clichés, those things you hear about being a mother, are true. You will be your children's rock, their pillars of strength, and their whole world, just because you are a mother.
Mothers are amazing. And I will always love you, my dearest mom.
That's all for my speech and thank you for listening.
作品3 My mum and my mother-in-law
选手:009 Landy童
Hello everyone, thank you very much for listening to my speech today. I'm going to tell you stories about both my mum and my mother-in-law.
My mum suffered a lot in her life. In her early years she survived a severe famine in Southwest China. Her father sold his two boys to maintain the family. She was hungry all the time for several years. Later on she suffered domestic violence at the hands of my father. In rural China, wife-beating was common. She was no different. She tolerated everything, stayed with us rather than run away, because she wanted to make sure all four of her children could grow up properly.
When I was little, I didn't feel any love from my family and I hated my father. I swore one day that after I had grown up I would make a lot of money, I would look after my mum and give her happiness. But I didn't. I followed her steps by marrying someone far away from my hometown, leading a life far away from my parents. I couldn't look after her as I had promised. Being a mother myself, I am trying my best to provide a loving family atmosphere for my two children, because I know how important it is to them.
My mother-in-law is British. She was a single child and she grew up in a family full of love. Apart from her husband , all of her four children and seven grandchildren love her. She's a charming lady, always nice and never argues with anyone. She's also very strong. She was running a B&B for more than a decade while looking after her four children.
There is one thing that they share in common. That is to keep learning. My mum can't read but she likes asking questions. She learns everything in her own way by observing and communicating with others. She managed to master WeChat so that she can video chat with me and leave me voice messages as well. My mother-in-law started to use emails from the 1990s. She kept in contact with my husband who has lived abroad for about 10 years. She joined in Facebook to follow her grandchildren rather than waiting for everybody contact her. My mum and my mother-in-law keep learning all the time and keep themselves updated in order to catch up with their children and grandchildren who they love.
Life is never easy for anyone, especially for mums. It is said that being a mum makes a woman strong. I love my two mums. And I just started my journey of motherhood. I hope I can be a great mum like them. I hope my children will always love me like I love my mums.
Thank you very much for listening.

My Mom
She is an old woman and looks older than she actually is, and it was the same when she was young – older face. She is my mother.
My mother gave birth to me when she was 35 years old.Comparing with other classmates, she looked like my grandmother.I was very shy and mindful about it .So ,unconsciously ,I minimized the chances she went to school .I tried my best to study and often I took the first place.I tried not to make troubles then in the eyes of teachers,I was the standard good girl and I became the monitor. Anyway, give the teachers no chance to ask my parents to go to school.
However,at home ,at that time, my mom and I were still very close with each other. When I went into high school, I didn't care so much about my mother's old face.Because everyone's mother became old! At that time, we were no longer as close as before, whether outside or at home. I didn't ask her to buy me sugar anymore; I didn't sleep on her arm anymore; I didn't put my feet on her belly to keep warm anymore. And we didn't take a walk along the small river anymore .By the way , the river actually had already dried up. I prefered to handle things by myself and shared with my friends.
Nowadays, at the age of 34, I have just become a mother. Of course,I don't look old.As a mother, I quickly realized that:
All the love in the world is for gather together Only one kind of love is for separate --------- mother's love. I‘m drifting away from my mom .Because I grew up - under the blessing of my mom's love, I got the ability of being happiness. . .
My mother is now 69 years old and still helps me to look after my son. “Thank you for all the things you did for me. I , your Daughter, want you to be safe and healthy. And hope you can treat yourself better !Only if you have lived a good life can I ,Your child ,be happiness !”
作品5 A letter to my mom
选手:036 卫婷
Hello everyone, this is Wei Ting, I’d like to share a letter to my mom with you today.
Dear mom:
This is the first time I write you a letter, and this is a letter that you may never know.
Mom, you know that when I was in primary school, I hated you, you had a bad temper, you always criticized me and I never got praise from you.
But now I know that how it was difficult to raise three kids at that time, grandma didn’t treat you well and she didn’t offer you any help, dad was a gentle teacher, he didn’t dare to ask grandma to do things for our family and he didn’t get high salary, so you needed to take care of the three of us and at the same time raised chickens, rabbits and pigs to sell to support our family. The burden of life was so heavy, I can totally understand you right now, I should have understood you then.
Mom, I’m very proud of you, you went to high school, you know math, you opened our small family shop, you never yielded to life, you tried everything to make our life better.Mom, I thank you and my dad very much, back then we three were the only three kids went to college in our village, because you all supported us and asked us to go to college. There were a lot of my classmates just quitted since middle school. For supporting we three to go to college, you and dad started the pig farm since I was in middle school, and until last year you just stopped, because the long years’ hard working, like lifting heaving things, has caused you and my dad serious bone problems, you can’t walk smoothly, because it hurts a lot. Look at your hands and feet, actually they are horrible, just like the roots of the very old tree, without any gloss.
Because of you, I could go to the bigger city, and see the bigger world, because of you I had the chance to become to the person who I am today. Now you are old and has lost the youth’s energy, you supported us and gave us so much, but now we are so far away from you, we can’t stay with you, I can’t imagine and bear the thought that what if you left us, there are still many things I want to do with you and for you.
At last, I want to say that “ Mom, I love you, thank you so much for giving us so much, I want to hug you and hold your hand, and I will be your better daughter, I will cherish you more when I still have you .”

作品6 A story that happened to me changed my life
选手:060 唐益军
Honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, good evening! I am ALEX, contestant NO. 60. I feel hornored to be here and make a speech. Tonight I am going to share with you a story that happened to me when I was a senior high schooler. And that thing changed my life.
When I was preparing the entrace examination of college, by the way we call it "GaoKao" in China, anyway, I felt so stresseful and I even wanted to quit. But my mom kept encouraging me to persist and I did. This is not a motivation story, so I didn't make it. I mean I went to a very average college at last. And I thought I was a loser during the dark time. Yeah, just because the top university in China rejected me, and I defined I am a loser.
One night, I was still down and lying on my bed. My mom knocked the door and came into my room, looking at me, and said, "Hey, sweetie, no matter what you could accomplish in your life, as parents, me and your father, we never think that you're not good enough. As parents, what we really want is you could be happy all the time. And caring too much for the failure is not a good way to be happy. And we don't think an average college means that you won't have a promising future and life. More importantly, don't let rejection define who you are, don't let anyone or anything define your life. It is you who are supposed to define your life and your future."
I was so touched and I cried. I mean I really appreciated my mom and it was she who always stays with me and keeps encouraging me. Since then, I stopped caring too much, I started to focus on what I want. And every time when I face frustration that I couldnot defeat and something that I might fail, these words would remind me of what I am supposed to do actually.
And now I got my master's degree from a top university in China and I work in a national lab. I think I am still pursuing my happiness.
And above all, no matter what I accomplished and will accomplish in my life, I have to say that my mom takes credit for this. She was,no, she is my life-mentor. And I never ever forget what I learned from her and finally I want to say thank you mom, I love you!
And thank you all for giving me this opportuniy to tell the story. Thank you.
作品7 Something about my mother
选手:037 玲玲
Dear judges and friends. This is Lingling. Firstly thanks the judges and the staff for their hard work during these days. Also thank you for giving me a chance to talk something about my mother. Did you remember my illiterate mother? Ok let's go on her story.
This Monday I read an article which is written by Wu Zhihong on his official account. The title is Anxious Chinese parents are ruining the next generation. After reading it, it reminds me of my parents, especially my mother. The difference is that, the love, my mother gave us was "non-anxious interest".
My father is a doctor. In my memory, he was always very busy. So my mother did most of the housework and took care of my brother and me. When we were children, my mother gave us plenty of room to make mistakes. My brother was very naughty at that time. Whenever he made mistakes she didn't panic or blamed him immediately. Instead, mother would talk to him patiently. When she saw that I could not tie my shoelaces, she would not help at once. She was just there to be with me and waited for me, helping me when I needed it.
Thanks for her "non- anxious interest", as a teacher, I can be more patient to my student now. Thanks for her "non-anxious interest", as a doctor, My brother can be more amiable to his patients now. At this right moment, I just want to say "I love you, mother, you are illiterate, but you impressed me with wisdom." Ok, that's all. Thank you for listening.
作品8 The unconditional love of my mother
选手:027 邱晓彬
Good evening ladies and gentlemen!
I’m Benny. Last week I shared three stories about my mother with you. Today I want to share three more stories about her to let you know the unconditional love of a mother.
My mom gave all she had to me. She has given all her spare time to me since I was born. My grandparents looked after me when my mother went back to work. I was six months old at that time. One day after she finished work, she was eager to take me home. She ran to the second floor, held me in her arms and went downstairs quickly. What happened next was she slipped down along the stairs on her bottom. Without any hesitation she lifted me over her head by her hands in order to protect me, even though that would bring her more pain because she couldn't stop falling downstairs without using her hands.
The second story happened in the first year after I graduated from the university. I found a job in Foshan. It's really hard for me to live in a new city alone since I have never left my hometown. I didn’t make any phone call to my parents in the first two weeks. One night, after I finished my work at night o’clock in the evening, my mom phoned me. I can’t remember what we said to each other that night. All I can remember now is the gentle and soft voice of my mom, which made me cry and I had to keep quiet because I didn’t want her to worry about me. However, when I put down my phone, I still cried. I missed my mom. She never leaves me, even though she’s not actually with me at that time. At that moment, I know, I always need her.
The third story is about my grandmother. She broke her leg by accident at the age of 80. Before that my grandmother insisted on living alone. But that time, she had to live with us for a while after the operation she had. Those days I saw my mom and dad are busy looking after my grandmother day and night. Especially my mom, she did almost all the housework. She had just retired at that time, but what I saw was that she was even busier than before. I think that is what my mom was trying to teach me. She was trying to tell me how to express love.
This is my mom. I'm really grateful to have a mom like that. Not only because the unconditional love she gave me, but also the lessons she was trying to teach me.
Thank you, mom. No matter what happens in the future, I want to tell you that I am, and I will be with you, sharing my love with you, just like what you did in the past thirty years.
Thanks for listening!
作品9 Stories about my mom
选手:065 陈国强
Everybody has a wonderful childhood, during which mother plays an important role. Mom, thank you very much for bringing me to this wonderful world.
The hometown of my mother is a vallige called Zhang San Chuan. I don't know what it means and where it comes from. In my memory, there are four members in the family. They are my mother, my grandmother, my uncle and my aunt. I have never seen my granfather, even in the photos. Very rarely does my mother talk about her father. The family lives on a land, which is not much fertile.
I only remember a few things about the family of my grandmother. Because my grandfather died early. My mother is the eldest child in the family. She inevitably became the backbone of the family, taking on the responsibility for handling everything at home and around.
After she got married, my father did business outside. Therefore, things like farming and housework fell on to my mother's shoulders. Especially in the busy seasons, she went to the field at 5 a.m. every day. When it's time to harvest wheat, she worked hard in the blazing sun, getting sweaty in the field. She did this year after year, for a better life.
Before I went to school, I had been put and raised in my grandmother's home. She didn't have time to take care of me because she's busy working on the farm. I always thought that she wasn't my mother especially when she lost her temper. I had a bad mother. I didn't receive any toys or gifts from her.I didn't understand why I had such a bad-tempered mother. At one time I even thought about leaving home.
Now I realized how stupid I was. As matter of fact, she just had so many things to do. It's pretty hard for her.My mother is very economical. Maybe it is because she grew up in a hard condition. This situation stayed the same after she married my father. After a little while, my father made some money in his business and life began to change. They bought a colorful TV, which was the first one in our village. Life was getting better and better because of their hard work. But my mother was still living a simple life and didn't change her habit of buying much for her kids, including herself as well. She has kept living such a life up to now.
Cooking is what she hates most. She only adds oil and salt to the dishes. At the same time, I was particular about food when I was little, so I was pretty thin at that time. Now, how I wish I could go back to that old time because I am working hard to lose weight.
I remember on a summer afternoon I went to the shop in the village with my brother and sister. We bought three packs of instant noodles and six sausages, which were the most delicious dinner that we had ever had in our childhood.
My mother was pretty strict with us, especially about our studies. She tried to do as much as she could to help us to learn better. Here's a funny story. One day, a barber came to our village. At that time, we got our hair cut at home by barbers who offered a door-to-door service.
When my mother knew that the barber's daughter was doing well in studies, she asked, "How do you make your daughter learn so well?"The barber told her that he had never had his daughter watch TV. Ever since then, I have had to say goodbye to my favorite TV programs.
This is my mother, an extremely ordinary woman. She's not well-educated, but has been teaching me a lot. She often says to me that if you want a good life, you have to work really hard. She also tells me that I should save money for my future and shouldn't be a spend thrift. To be honest, I'm not doing well in this respect. I want to say, "Sorry, Mom. I will do better next time."
Maybe I can't live the way you ask me to live, but I want you to know that I'm trying hard to be a person who you're proud of. Thank you very much, mum. I love you.
作品10 Something about my son and my mother
选手:056 王荣丽
Good evening, my dear friends. I am Zoe. It’s my great honor to be here today. I never thought I would take part in an English speech contest before, but many things were changed after I joined 007 group. Thank you ! You give me the courage and chance to show myself in front of so many excellent friends. I believe I will become better. Today, I’d like to share something about my son and my mother with you. They also changed me a lot. I love them. I ‘m proud to be a mother and a daughter because of them.
I never forgot the day when my son was born. He came to the world 10 days earlier than we expected. I was scared and helpless when I felt great pain in the morning that day. My husband and other families didn’t stay with me. I lived myself in the dormitory at school where I was working. It was lucky that my colleagues sent me to the hospital in time. There was something bad so I couldn’t give birth to my son naturally. I had to wait for my husband to come back by plane from Yin Chuan to sign the profile otherwise I couldn’t take the operation. During the waiting time, I lied on a narrow bed in a silent room. I didn’t know what to do. I felt lonely and I just wanna cry. I saw my belly. I knew there was a baby inside of it and he would stay with me all the time. Luckily, my husband came to the hospital in the afternoon with other families. I could feel something strange with my belly during the operation. I was quite dizzy when the baby was pulled out of my body. After a while , a nurse held my son and said“ Look, he is lovely.” At that moment, I thought I was in the heaven and my son was an angel. Now, he is 6 years old. He is kind, smart and lovely. I say “I love you” to him everyday. I want to thank him either. He makes me strong and brave. He makes me different. He makes me better than before. He makes me a mother.
My mother had 4 children in her life. I am the youngest. Before I was born, there were already two girls in our family. But my father still wanted a son, so she got pregnant again when she was 27. Her belly was so big that she couldn’t walk at the last days. She didn’t know there were two babies in her belly because she was never checked in hospital. She was almost killed by the pain on the day of our birth. Fortunately we were born safely with the help of an old lady in our village. We were healthy even we were quite small and weak. My mother was very excited to see us. Of course, she really had a difficult life because of us in the following years.
There is a saying :” Every girl is weak, but she must be strong when she becomes a mother.” I love two persons best in my life. One is my mother who gave me life and raised me up. The other one is my son.He makes me strong, hard-working and happy. Every Mother’s Day, I will give my mother a call and say I love you. I am grateful when I receive the gift from my son. I am trying to love my mother just in the way I love my son. I am willing to give them everything I have.
Thank you for listening. I love you all.
作品11 Some stories about me and my mom
选手:010 Shane
Tonight, I just want to share you some stories about me and my mom. My mom was born in an ordinary family. Both of her parents were soldier, however, because of being ignorance and lack of education, they were arranged to help the development of some rural area after the war. Being born and raised up in a small town, my mom proofed to everybody it is possible to live on her own in a big city with a promising career and even being famous in her specialty. Many years ago, she graduated from high school and went to a tertiary hospital in a big city as a nurse. In my memory she was always occupied by work and had little time to share with me. Literally speaking, I grew up with my grandparents and they always told me my mom was ambitious in career that she was preparing for an examination to get a bachelor degree even when she was pregnant. But as a child, I didn’t understand her choice, I just felt that she loves her work more than me.
After primary school, I left my grandparents and went to live with my parents. At that time, my mom was already a head nurse and there is no need for her to take a night shift. She knew I didn’t study well but she said nothing critically and try her best to get me into a really famous junior high school in that city. Every morning, she would turn on the player and listen to English with me while having breakfast at the same time. After that, on the way to my school, she would ask me to repeat the english text I’ve just listened to her. I didn’t realize that she had no idea about what that texts talked about until I went to college so many years later but I really appreciate what my mom done for me since English opens the door of a wider world for me.
Besides, when I went home after school, she never told me “go finish your homework first, after that you can watch TV”, she started to work or study on her own and told me“You can do whatever you want, but you have to go to bed before 10:00 since you need to get up at 6 tomorrow morning if you don’t want to be late.” When I tracing back, I realized that she never force me to study, she just try to make some influence on my behavior by giving me an example.
Until then, I started to realize that what a delicate way my mom love me. She doesn’t want to control my life but she still needs to lead me a right path. There are so many other things I can remember but I won’t list them here because of the limit of the time. I just want to say thank you to my mom and thank you all for listening.
