I have to admit that i never for a moment absorted in the book when i first read it .But now, i'm curious about its character and what kind of person it would be.
It's obvious that most of us may fear to pursue and fulfill our dreams especially when we get older. But, Mr. Strickland did it.He was not young any more but full of passion, genious and eccentricity. On the contrary, he was a person who was filled with selfishness because of his escaping from family and job. Somehow he was cruel, brutal, sensual and selfish.He left his home, it was not to live a gay life but a hardly one.Everyone imagined that he must have infatuated with anyone. In fact, it's not true. His pretentiousness would only expose his vacuity.
To persue his secret has something of the fascinateion of a detective story. Many people admire him while others disgust him.It's a riddle which shares with the universe the merit of having no answer.And the most insignificant of his works suggest a personality which is strange, tormented and complex.
On the other hand, to my surprise, there are three women fell in love with him.Including Amy,Mrs.Stroeve and Ata.Amy even promised that she would forgive him no matter what he did. Mrs.Stroeve left her husband and went to live with him.Ata, a vibrant girl who was just seventeen in Tahiti, married him and had two babies with him.Unfortunately, It's a tragedy.
