每周六，美国总统都要发表一次电台演讲，这已经成为一项传统。演讲的内容涵盖了教育、就业、经济、医疗、科技等各个方面，与普通民众的生活息息相关。一则短小的演讲拉近了一位传奇的总统与平民百姓之间的距离。每周电台演讲最早可追溯到20世纪30-40年代，时任总统罗斯福利用炉边谈话节目向美国人民宣传自己的政治立场。炉边谈话带来的影响十分深远，以至于流传着这样的说法“华盛顿与他们的距离，不比起居室里的收音机远”。

这三个介词的连用效果自不多说，通俗地说就是，从群众中来，到群众中去。

founders, self-government (或者说self-executing) 在他的告别演讲中也出现了， 看来referring to history 确实是引发共鸣的一大法宝。
