今天要分享的这个小词，最早是我们在经济学人中学到的，record，很简单的一个词。
昨天#知新共学#12月翻译群的日常中译英练习中遇到了两个句子，完美用上这两个小词，很地道：
这个行事毫无公平可言的经济体……
其实不是个句子，是个名词结构。
第一眼看过去，感觉用定语从句是最方便的：an economy that does not play fair/act fairly，也可以从“遵守规则”的方面入手：an economy that does not follow rules。
如果要用record，该怎么组句呢？
先看几个月前在经济学人上的一个句子：
For example, e-mails posted to WikiLeaks in 2015 show that Hacking Team, a Milanese broker, sold exploits to Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and the United Arab Emirates, none of whichhas a sparkling record of democracy and freedom.
record此处的意思是：
the facts about how successful, good, bad etc someone or something has been in the past〔某人或某事物过去的〕记录；经历；履历
record of/in (doing) sth
Chemistry graduates have a good record in finding employment.
化学专业的毕业生就业一向容易。
none of which has a sparkling record of democracy and freedom此处的意思就是，这几个国家在民主自由方面的表现都不太光彩。
如果你在阅读经济学人的过程中留意到了这个词组，那么在遇到文章开头的那个小句子时应该就能做到下笔如有神啦。
行事毫无公平可言，那么可以理解成在商业交易方面的表现都不太光彩（此处语境大概是指责这个经济体通过剽窃和欺骗发展自己），可以是：
an economy that has no sparkling record of doing business
阅读经济学人的过程中，除了查词背词，也要注意词的使用，不妨从词典的例句着手，给自己做个情境假设，只有这样，在今后的翻译、写作中，才能做到举一反三。
毕竟，背下来的单词还不是你的，能用得上的单词才真正属于你。
