1.haughty

ADJ You use haughty to describe someone's behaviour or appearance when you disapprove of the fact that they seem to be very proud and to think that they are better than other people.

2.sodden

ADJ Something that is sodden is extremely wet.

3.squirm

V-I If you squirm, you move your body from side to side, usually because you are nervous or uncomfortable.

4.swelling

N-VAR A swelling is a raised, curved shape on the surface of your body which appears as a result of an injury or an illness.

5.pus

N-UNCOUNT Pus is a thick yellowish liquid that forms in wounds when they are infected.

6. remedy

N-COUNT A remedy is something that is intended to cure you when you are ill or in pain.

7.resort

V-I If you resort to a course of action that you do not really approve of, you adopt it because you cannot see any other way of achieving what you want.

8.squelch

V-I To squelch means to make a wet, sucking sound, like the sound you make when you are walking on wet, muddy ground.

9.furtive

ADJ If you describe someone's behaviour as furtive, you disapprove of them behaving as if they want to keep something secret or hidden.

10.lethal

ADJ A substance that is lethal can kill people or animals.

11.puke

V-I When someone pukes, they vomit.

12.pouf

N a large solid cushion, usually cylindrical or cubic in shape, used as a seat

13.portent

N-COUNT A portent is something that indicates what is likely to happen in the future.

14.decipher

V-T If you decipher a piece of writing or a message, you work out what it says, even though it is very difficult to read or understand.

15.spooky

ADJ A place that is spooky has a frightening atmosphere, and makes you feel that there are ghosts around.

16.baleful

ADJ Baleful means harmful, or expressing harmful intentions.

17.rivet

V-T If you are riveted by something, it fascinates you and holds your interest completely.

18.midget

N-COUNT People who are very short are sometimes referred to as midgets.

19.antics

N-PLURAL Antics are funny, silly, or unusual ways of behaving.

20.tussle

V-RECIP If one person tussles with another, or if they tussle, they get hold of each other and struggle or fight.

21.graze

V-T If you graze a part of your body, you injure your skin by scraping against something.

22.ferret

N-COUNT A ferret is a small, fierce animal which is used for hunting rabbits and rats.

23. scummy

ADJ of, resembling, consisting of, or covered with scum

N-UNCOUNT Scum is a layer of a dirty or unpleasant-looking substance on the surface of a liquid.

24.flail

V-T/V-I If your arms or legs flail or if you flail them about, they wave about in an energetic but uncontrolled way.

25.malevolent

ADJ A malevolent person deliberately tries to cause harm or evil.

26.dole

V to distribute, esp in small portions
