take in: something is moving in towards you and you are accepting or absorbing it.

              It's a lot of information to take in.

take on: somthing is being put on top of you like a burden or responsibility.

               He takes on a lot of work.

take up: you are picking something up like a new skill or responsibility.

               He took up a new job.

take off: to remove or leave.

               He took off his jacket.

*assess vs evaluate

指“评定某人能力”、“评定某一决策的风险”,“评定损失”,意思可互换。

 assess,与税务、税款有关。

evaluate,表达其他,不一定是金钱。


3、Managing deadlines at work

Hi Daryl. How're you settling into the new position?

A:嗨,Daryl。新工作怎么样?

B:嗨,Daryl。你在新岗位还适应吗?(Do you feel comfortable with doing your work?)

*在新岗位还适应吗?How're you settling into the new position?

*settling into = feel comfortable with doing sth.

Great, thanks. But I'm juggling so many tight deadlines.

A:很好,谢谢。但我挣扎于太多紧急截止日期了。

B:很好,谢谢,但是我要同时应付很多很急的截止日期。(I have to deal with so many tight deadlines at the same time.)

*tight deadlines/schedule

*同时应付几件事:juggle (throw 3 or 4 balls or thing into the air)= deal with...at the same time

I hear you. I've learned to accept the deadline and stick to it. If the work is as good as you can make it, just hit send.

A:我理解你。我学会接受截止日期,并坚持到底。如果工作你做得足够好了,就提交。

Yeah that's a good mindset. But there's just so much pressure.

Don't let that stress you out. You can get a lot more work done if you're calm under pressure.
