Good morning, everyone. This is Wendy. I am a character from P.O.W.E.R.

P.O.W.E.R.is a newly released PC game designed by my maker, who also named Wendy. She comes up with a computer game to propose earthquake preparedness at home. So, here I am, a virtual female character staying in bedroom alone when a powerful earthquake strikes. My maker has told me that her proposal for surviving is hidden in P.O.W.E.R..Would you like to join in me in this game? Let’s go.

So, this is the layout of my bedroom. On a regular Summer night at 2:30am, I am sleeping tight on the bed when, suddenly, it starts to shake with noise come from windows and things falling down. I open my eyes in darkness. Oh, my GOD, earthquake! What should I do?

The first letter suggested by my maker is P. I know! 跑!So, I reach my cellphone, open the door and rush out of room on bare feet. Ouch! I hit badly by the dining table in the living room that has been moved by force of earthquake and blocked my way. My feet are also cut by the sharp glasses on the floor. It is a complete chaos in the dark. In a blink of eye, something from the ceiling fall down and hit my head…Okay, I am gone.

I want to try again. Now we know it’s not a good idea to flee. As I am living on the 4th floor, my chance to outrun an earthquake is very slim and I could end up with bad injury like last time. So, instead of 跑, I need p…p, …Protect myself from injury first! That's right, this time after waking up from the shaking, I immediately lie my face down to protect my vital organs, and cover my head and neck with a pillow, keeping my arms close to my head and wait a while…

The room continues to move back and forth. What if the whole building collapse? Should I hide in the closet? By the second I jump in, the closet fall down and seal the door. There isn’t much room inside with all my winter coats and stuff like that. Soon it gets very hot and i start to sweat. Even worse, it’s harder and harder for me to breath. Several hours later, I am gone again due to suffocation and dehydration.

However, I think I have decoded the next two letters O and W. Oxygen and water. When the building collapses in earthquake and you are buried under rubble, it’s vital to have enough air supply from the outside world. The next priority is water. People without it can only last a short time especially when it's hot and you start to sweat.

With lesson learned, shall we try again? Picture Talks. As you can see, I have saved some water in advance with a flash light, a whistle, some high-energy non-perishable food. This time, I choose spot No3, the desk, as the shelter. In the crazy shaking, I am onto my hands and knees to stay low. I cover my head with one arm and grab the desk with another hand to move with it when it shifts. In the strong shaking the building finally collapse and the aftershocks continue…

Several hours later, the quake stops. I am trapped between a gap under the rubble. Alive, have some water and a little space with air supply. But I couldn’t move, I lost my phone and my legs are injured.

In the darkness, I start to lose track of time with the fading of faith. When the negativity begins to eat me from inside, I remember the letter, E. In my heart, i find the eagerness to live. The eagerness to get out and join in Toastmaster again. That's right, I can’t give up! So, I keep tapping on a pipe nearby with the flash light and blow the whistle again and again for help.

Finally, I have been found. I get rescued. And I know that’s what letter R stands for. By covering myself with protection, staying with oxygen and water prepared, and having a strong eagerness to live, I will have a larger chance to be rescued from earthquake. That’s what this game is about.

Dear ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining me. Have you picked up some tips for earthquake survival at home? Please remember that "Fortune favors the well prepared." Thank you and see you next time.
