《It’s mine 》by Leo Lionni. Who was an international known designer, illustrator, and graphic artist. His picture books are distinguished by their enduring moral themes, graphic simplicity, and brilliant use of collage.
About the story: In the middle of Rainbow Pond there was a small island, lived three selfish frogs, all day long they bicker: it’s mine! It’s mine! It’s mine! They quarreled and quarreled. A large brown toad told them there was no peace because of their endless bicker. But the three quarralsome frogs went on. One day, a bad storm struck the island ,the island was about to be swallowed by the rising flood, they were scared , they huddled together on the only one rock, then they found out that being together, sharing the same fears and hopes made them feel better. After the flood receded, the large rock that had saved them was the friendly toad. Then the frogs were no longer noisy. They realized that the private ownership isn’t that important. To share made them feel peaceful and happy!
After reading the story, we could talk more with the kids. For instance.
Why did they quarrel a lot?
Who was trying to tell them that quarrels doesn’t solve anything?
What did they do in the bad storm?
What did they learn after the storm?
We could also tell the kids that we need each other. To share is the best way to get along with each other. Air, land and water is for everyone in the world. To share is also a give-and-take, get-and-return relationship. To share with others is very important.
what would you feel if someone does not share with you?
