《I am fire》by Jean Marzollo, illustrated by Judith Moffat, is one of the scolastic series. I recommend this series to young readers and their parents. Because it is interesting and practical for them.
Fire is one of the important things around us in the world. In this story, we would learn about fire safety, such as how we use the fire correctly, how we prevent a fire effectively, how we survive in a fire safely.
Before reading.
I asked my daughter to tell me about fire. She replied in Chinese, “I scare of the fire, because it would scald me.”
Well, before my children was 7 years old, I really wanted to keep them away from the fire or the other hot things. So I always told them, the fire is very dangerous, it is very hot, it would burn the house and scald your skin, don’t play with the fire in the kitchen ect. I think the fire safety should be learned every day by the children. I told Libby that she was older enough to use the fire safely. I meant she can learn cooking with the fire.
During reading. Pick up some new words in the story.

After reading.
The children played a game about stop, drop and roll. Then they drew a fire safety map of our department. We learned the signs of fire safety as well.
