英语报告是下级单位或个人向上级单位汇报工作、反应情况、提出意见或者建议的一种应用文。考研英语一写作中较为常见的是科研报告。无论是哪一种报告，在写作方法上都要遵循以下几点：
1.明确报告的读者，分析其需要。
2.语气要客观、真实。
3.运用叙述、说明等正式表达方式，不使用祁使、请求等表达方式。
报告通常包括标题、导言、材料收集方法、调查结果。
一.标题（Title）
报告的标题尽可能概括报告的内容。它是整篇报告的信息浓缩，必须准确、客观，不应像文章标题那样为了吸引读者的注意力而别出心裁。报告的标题一般使用“Report on ...”种形式，如：Report on Improving Training Methods，Report on the Proposed Incentive Scheme。
二.导言（Introduction/Terms of Reference）
在导言部分，扼要地说明写作背景和主旨。如果是事件调查报告应首先说明事件的经过，包括事件发生的日期、时间、地点、情况叙述等。
常见句型如下：
The report examines/explains ... 该报告调查了/解释了......
The purpose of this report is to investigate/evaluate/study ... 该报告的目的是调查/评估/研究......
The objective of this report is to recommend/analyze ... 该报告的目的是介绍/分析......
The aim of this report is to feedback/estimate/assess ... 该报告的目的是反馈/评估/评定 ......
三.材料收集方法（Methodology/Proceedings）
报告的这部分应说明收集信息或资料的方法和步骤。在报告中注明提供这一信息可以增强报告的真实性和客观性，尤其是意见调查报告。当然并不是所有报告都需要收集资料，因此，并非每一种报告都需要提供这部分内容。
常见句型如下：
A sample of workers was individually asked for their opinions. 对工作人员抽样调查，并分别询问了意见。
A questionnaire was completed by those who were surveyed in this project. 用问卷的形式调查了该项目的人员。
The information was mainly achieved with a number of telephone calls to students. 该信息主要通过对学生进行电话访问后得到。
四.调查结果（Findings）
报告的调查结果部分是报告建议的依据，其内容应当准确无误，结构清晰，语言流畅、衔接。这部分内容的每一个段落都应当有一个明确的主题句，一般放在句首，这样便于读者摄取这部分的信息。
常见句型如下：
The findings of the investigation/survey indicate that ... 调查的结果表明......
It was proposed/found/discovered that ... 有人提议/发现......
A number of people mentioned/suggested that ... 有人提到/建议......
若在报告中需要提供图表统计数据或描述行情走势，撰写人应当熟悉这方面写作的常用句型。如：
The table shows/describles/illustrates that ... 这份图表表明......
As can be seen from the table ... 从图表可知......
It is clear/apparent from the table that ... 从图表可知......
注：table指行列组成的表格，课根据不同的表格形式替换成bar chart（柱状图），pie chart（饼状图），graph（坐标曲线图），diagram（图解，图画），也可以视需要换成figure（数据），statistics（统计数据）。
五.报告格式模板

六.标准范文
Directions: Peking University conducted a survey among 16 college students by means of questionnaire. Write a report which should cover the following points:
(1) the purpose of the survey; (2) introduce the questionnaire; (3) the findings of the questionnaire; (4) simple anaysis of the survey.
Report on College Students' Reading Habits
This report aims to discover college students' reading habits.
The survey was conducted among 16 college students at Peking University by means of questionnaire on February 16th. The questionnaire dealt with students' reading habits and reading frequency.
As can be seen, 81% of the students regularly read academic books, while 44% regularly read academic journals. Nothing else is read often by 10% of the students. In regard to students' extracurricular reading, 55% regularly read newspaper or magazines, while 34% sometimes read fiction and 12% never read.
We may draw a conclusion from the data that college students presumably allocate little time for general reading, and most of their reading time is spent on books and journals on theire own subject.
